Are you recording the guitar sims right into the interface? That's what I do. Out of theLine 6, then the pedals, then into the pre, then the computer. No miked up amps, ever. Try that--if it sounds good then, you'll know its the amp/mic thing.
I use Slate's Virtual Mix Rack on every channel as well as the master bus and submix busses. Usually set to the Trident console emulation. Even using the plugs across the entire virtual mixer, it's gonna be real subtle, but I just use them as a matter of course. It's easy to set input and...
As mentioned above, try mid-side if you can. I did this for the first time a few months ago and it turned out very good. Of course you you need a decent space, the mid-side decoder/preamp (I used an ART Pro MPA ll dual channel preamp), and a couple of mics that have figure of eight and cardioid...
I have and have had a few Behringer mixers, but not the USB one. If there are any switches in the signal path, try pushing them in and out repeatedly. I was havingthe same issues as the OP, and it was the switches Gummed up switches have been an issue with every Behringer I've had, but this...
True enough, but if the contractor specializes in a type of build, would'nt he know a bit about that type of build? And, if they see something on a print that is unusual or wrong, I think they'd be inclined to comment.
What is the entire signal chain? Is your guitar or whatever plugged into the RC-300 directly? Are the RC-300's outs going to something like computer software? Did you buy the RC-300 new?
Sounds like you should post this in the Analog recording sub-forum. I stopped using cassette muti-trackers over 15 years ago, largely because of computers, but this is the kind of thing that makes using cassette multi-trackers, um, frustrating, to say the very least. I have to ask, what's the...
Wouldn't the contractor who specialises in building recording studios know that perhaps that marble wall idea might not be a good one? Same for some of the other design concepts?
I don't want to be the rain on the parade, but have you thought about using a computer to record with? It's a lot easier and way more possibilites are available. But I'm sure you know that. But at this point even Steve Albini admits that he wishes he'd learned how to use computers years...
I'm able, at this point, to record the acoustic first and then my vocal. I've recorded people who simply can't or won't do this, but in every case they were able to get things right fairly quickly. Doing things separately of course gives you total flexibilty as far as overdubds go.
No ProTools user is gonna laugh at you for using LogicPro. (Unless they're shallow snobs of some kind.) There are plenty of ProToolers who use LogicPro, and any one of a number of DAWs. ProTools is in virtually every studio in the world, and so is the default program, but believe me, it's not...
A typical project folder is between 2 and 6 gigs. That's recording at 48 kHz. That also includes out-takes and other audio that isn't being used. Space is so cheap now there's no need to get too worried about the size of the folder anymore, but I suppose it's always a good idea to get rid of...
Jack White listens to mixes in his car . . . a Tesla with a kick-ass sound system. Most people don't have that luxury. White also records only to eight tracks on two-inch tape, or so I read. Another quirky luxury--or is it some kind of obsession? I never use the car stereo's system to check a...
