    New DAW PC build 2025

To be honest I'm inclined to agree. I could see some edge cases where there are compatibility issues between some software and Intel integrated graphics but, to be fair, you can get that with any graphics. A modern machine should be more than capable of home recording duties, even with...

Self-releasing physical media: CDs, USB, tapes, vinyl

I didn't see any update in the previous thread to suggest you'd tried decent quality media. There's every chance your player just won't play any home-burned CD-Rs but testing with cheap media isn't the way to find out.

Order CDs vs. burn my own CD-Rs - a problem of CD player compatibility

Internet forums are littered with countless instances of people asking for CD-R burning help only to come back later and say "I burned at a lower speed and that worked". If you chaps have some data about an optimal speed I'll certainly take it but, for now, our OP is struggling to successfully...

Order CDs vs. burn my own CD-Rs - a problem of CD player compatibility

Fair enough. Thanks for the info, Farview.

Order CDs vs. burn my own CD-Rs - a problem of CD player compatibility

Sure but if you're troubleshooting going to the lowest speed isn't going to make anything worse.

Order CDs vs. burn my own CD-Rs - a problem of CD player compatibility

Get good quality media from a reputable brand (verbatim, for example). Aim for 650MB rather than 700, if possible. Burn at the slowest speed possible. Make sure disc is finalised after burn process. Make sure Disc-at-once burning is ticked. Use reputable software like Toast or Nero for burning...

    Mastering issue

Hi Brian. It's telling you that it can't create that file because the target drive, or path, doesn't exist, is unavailable, or is in use. That probably means either your D: drive isn't mounted or a 'Guitar Man.wav' already exists and is open in another application.

iZotope Neutron Mix Assistant - What is the ideal/correct configuration?

Hi and welcome to HR! I'm not familiar with that software but this video seems to cover basic setup and usage.

I hope it's ok that I make this point

It's an interesting discussion to have, for sure, and, of course, it's OK to make the point or ask the question. I think, like so many things, it probably comes down to honesty and open communication. Every tool or service or technique will have its haters and its supporters but, ultimately, as...

Simple question: How many dB to record at?

For what it's worth when I mentioned physics I meant it more in the Scottie way than a Brian Cox way. Especially fitting considering Dave's opening line cause me to hear his entire post in the voice of Kirk! A nice way to think about it, maybe, is like having a one to one conversation but in...

    Monitor speakers / Headphones

That's great. There's definitely something to be said for having realistic targets and keeping things simple. I hope you find the same success with your new setup but if you don't it's a good thing you joined a home recording forum. ;)

    Monitor speakers / Headphones

Best of luck. (y) There are some basics with monitoring that can help a lot, if you don't already know. The main things are placing them such that they, and you, make an equilateral triangle, and placing them so that they are at approximately the same height as your ears. Of course try to...

    Monitor speakers / Headphones

It depends what you have. The goal with monitor speakers is that they should be neutral sounding. They should tell you the truth without accentuating this or diminishing that. Of course there are varying degrees of this with some monitor speakers being very good and others being terrible...

    Monitor speakers / Headphones

Hi. Welcome to HR! No, the Scarlett does not have a power amp built in. Most, or perhaps all, audio interfaces are like this. They output line level. What you'd need, then, is a power amp and a set of passive speakers or a set of active speakers.

Simple question: How many dB to record at?

There's no need to be defensive. You've come looking for help and advice and you're getting it. I'll never discourage someone from experimenting to learn but there is value in saying "that's not how it works" if that's not how something works. No one's criticising your recordings and no one's...

Order CDs vs. burn my own CD-Rs - a problem of CD player compatibility

All the other info in this thread is relevant and useful but this ^ is where I'd start. If you can get your hands on a tried and tested brand like Verbatim, and set burn speed to the slowest, that might be all that's needed.

Order CDs vs. burn my own CD-Rs - a problem of CD player compatibility

What brand of CDRs did you use? It's too long ago to give you specifics but I do remember issues with some brands. If I recall I settled on buying Verbatim and burning at the slowest possible speeds.

Simple question: How many dB to record at?

The fundamental difference between what you're describing and noise cancelling headphones is that with noise cancelling headphones the desired audio, your mp3 or whatever, is already isolated, as is the noise. The idea of recording a sample of some of the noise might sound nice but unless that...

Simple question: How many dB to record at?

Hate to be that guy but compressors don't 'bring up the low points' and noise cancelling headphones don't sample noise from a few minutes ago. These solutions will either not help or make the problem worse.
