Hi all,
Just planning a new Iso cabinet / vocal booth and the layout of my house determines that it will be a fair distance from my desk - probably about 6m (20ft) away. The cables, one XLR for a phantom powered condenser mic and one guitar lead will have to be more like 8m or 9m (26ft to 30ft)...
Hey guys,
I just got given a homemade "Vocal booth", rough dimentions 2.5m x 1.5m x 2.2m(H). Thats 8ft x 5ft x 7ft(H)
I got it 'cause i needed an isolation cabinet for my valve guitar amp - it's getting fairly loud which limits my recording time and angers the wife
It's a fairly...
Pickup questions.
I *know* there is some experience hanging around this forum. I need some basic info.
http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/progressive/sh4_jb_model/
Seymour Duncan has failed to mention which one ( if any ) is F spaced for Fender (or Floyd Rose, I dunno)...
Short and sweet.
Do you guys ever string your full locking floyd rose exes with 10 gauge strings?
I've been playing my new Indie with 11 gauge strings for a while now and picking up the old Jem77FP with 9 gauge, the strings feel like spider webs...

Hi all,
At this point, I could really use some feedback on this Sample_Download, specifically with regard to the overall "sound" in general and the electric guitar tone (if you're guitar oriented).
Got a nice studio? I'd like to see how this stands up. How much does it sound like a home...
Hi all. Not sure where to post this topic.
I'm going overseas for a few months. I'll be taking a notebook (read, slightly underpowered laptop).
I want a quick and dirty program to create midi music and have it play back in any quality. I imagine I'm talking crappy 80s synth drums, piercing...
Hi all,
Noob question alert.
I've been using Midi tracks in Cubase. The midi track controls sounds in the "Free" software package I got with my EMU 040 sound card, called Proteus VX.
The sounds from this software are, well, edequate. Some sounds are better than others.
I use a small Midi...
Hi all,
I listen to recordings and hear that specfial guitar note where, when held, after a 3 or 4 seconds perfectly transforms into the same note but one octave higher due to feedback.
You know what I mean ( I hope).
What are the tricks of setting up your amp and guitar to promote feedback...
Hi all,
Need some of your advice again.
I'm recording song at the moment. I've put some slide guitar up front in the mix as the melody for the first part of the song.
I had a condenser mic up close to the guitar to get a descent level and I ended up with a lot of slide noise. I'm using a...
Hi all.
Simple qiestion really. I have a SM57 and a RODE NT1A.
I'll be recording a Tennor Sax soon.
Since some of you have lot's of experience out there, is there an obvious choice and method here?
Or will it be one of those "Personal taste" answers?
Cheers,
FM
Hi all,
I've just bought a new guitar!
Unfortunately no where near as nice as Miroslav's new baby - man I'd be worried about scratching that thing!
.. but I've been here firing questions here about tube amps, guitar quality, iso cabs and mics for approaching six months now. Yes, it's taken me...
Hey there,
Bit of a noob question ...
For something like reverb, the type of effect that you want to run parallel to your source, I've been setting up an effect track with 100% wet and sending differeing amounts of signal to the FX track. So, 1 single effects track receiving many sources -...
Hi all.
Just finished the initial treating of my room (https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=299984) and ended up with a great result. A more linear responce and better stereo imaging, leading to more accurate mixing and a portable mix.
Two things I want to address next is the...
Recording vocals (or anything really) in Cubase.
I've got a Condenser mic direct in to an EMU-0404 (external soundcard) , recording a single mono track.
Does anybody have the issue where you want to hear more level (your own mic) in the mix but can't use the fader to mix any more in? I thought...
Recorded some vocals on the weekend. Lot's of fun.
I ended up recording the first part totally dry. I then, took a break and developed a vocal effect (Cubase, POD Farm) that really sounded good.
When I recorded the next part, I had the new effect in the mix as I sang.
Is there a gererally...
Newbie question.
Im buying a mic today, Rode NT-1A. A "cheapy".
When I get it home, apart from the obvious check of does it "work" or "not work", what should I check for when buying a condenser mic? ie Excessive noise, or ?????? - i don't know, *that* is why I am asking at this post!
Do they...
Hi all.
Had a great thread here (well, great for me who is learning)...
https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=3349584&posted=1
.. about where I should place my monitors to get "proper" sound. This has lead more to a "treat your room" thread so I though I'd start another.
Trying to...
Hi all,
My "studio" if you can all it that is moving to the mext step.
I have a pair of KRK Rokit 6 that I bought as reference to record and mix. For the the moment though, they are on a shelf up against the wall - obviously totally useless for the purpose they were built for 'cause there is a...
Actually, the post is probably more about bone.
I was looking at the plastic nut on the guitars I've been looking to buy where the strings actually sink into and sit right down into the nut.
I remember looking at a video from Dan Erlewine talking about how the strings should sit on top of the...
Morning guys,
Need some info that been a long time coming... and this would be the perfect place to ask.
*Always* throughout my life there has been this glow of "Made in US" or "Made in Japan" label on guitars, with the price tag to match.
It's just crazy how much they charge for a Gibson...
