    Multi-Band Compression Redux

Multi-Band compression is one of the very most vital tools I have. I haven't done a mix without them for years. I don't know any of my peers in the industry that don't use them frequently as well. Who, and more importantly why, are there mostly negative comments? Scratchin' my head on this one :)

Studiologic numa x gt ...as a MIDI controller?

The short answer is yes. But all softsynths CC maps aren't necessarily the same. They may have to be re-assigned. Easy enough though. The only hitch I see is the usual layout of the mod/bender/joystick. It seems to be a bit of a departure as compared to the traditional mod wheel layout, but as...

    Pro Tools 2023.3

Ah, you know your right! I didn't think that one through. You are also correct in that East West Play no longer shows up in Pro Tools. Probably the end of the line for Play. I've had Opus for quite some time so the upgrade price doesn't sting as much as it originally did. I do think Opus is a...

    TASCAM Model 12 Newby

I don't know the 12 all that well but I am very familiar with the 16 and 24. Everything should be pretty darn straightforward. If you run into troubles post them and we'll help

    Pro Tools 2023.3

Yep, I have them as well. However, I think the problem, at least for the most part, is VST 3 non-compatibility. My Cubase and Studio 1 rig's run great with full VST 3 implementation. I suspect it won't be long until Avid gets things sorted.

    Pro Tools 2023.3

Silicon fully implemented. It's luxuriously fast on a Mac Studio and it sure seems rock solid. Encouraged!

Amazing! It looks like you got a genuine collectible. Good on you :)

    Yamaha fs1r value

I vaguely remember this back then, as an odd duck, albeit a great-sounding resurgence of the FM/DX7 days. I was heavily invested in the old DX7 days and still love FM synthesis sounds. Korg has a native version of the Opsix that keeps me in that world from time to time. Anyway, I'd think the...

    ProControl Faderport

I've always heard good reports regarding Paul Neyrinck's software solutions and Logic. That and I seem to recall he had a trial available. I certainly give it a go. I had a Pro Control back in the day but eventually found it too cumbersome for what I was doing at the time. Not so much physically...

    Do I want/need a Model 24?

I agree. There are a bunch of DAW-less devices that quite honestly are modern-day miracles. The DP-24 is one of them. The point I've always mentioned, however, and which seems to go relatively overlooked (particularly with the Model 24), is its strength, by a long shot, is it's an analog mixer...

    Do I want/need a Model 24?

I have one and as I've mentioned several times in other threads, I absolutely love it and consider it the centerpiece of my music recording rig. I will mention that I use it primarily as an interface and mixer for Studio 1. But I have also recorded to the sound card, and it works flawlessly...

    What keyboard?

As a follow-up. After a rabbit hole deep dive into this recording (because that's just what I do) and on a tip from a friend of mine, I discovered Spectrasonics Omnisphere has an identical patch re-creation of the pad sound for Streets of Philadelphia. For those that have Omnisphere the patch is...

    Grasping 3 band eq

There are two often misunderstood components of a sweepable (parametric) eq, at least as a basic and broad brushstroke. There is the "Q" and there is the bell. In your case, I think the bell is non-adjustable but for the record bell "shapes" are measured in octaves. The lower octave bells have a...

    Grasping 3 band eq

It's a bit difficult to tell from the manual but an educated guess is the Zoom R16 has 3 different eq profiles. There is a low shelf, a sweepable mid, and a high shelf. To answer your question specifically, if you cut your "low-shelf" at 150hz it's more than likely a gradual predetermined curve...

    Master fader level rising

Well, I think we have to be careful here :) This video is based on Reaper's 64-bit architecture. Most DAW's and most plug-ins are 64-bit these days, but not all. I'm also pretty sure the OP's Zoom R16 is not. This video would invite utter disaster for anyone not using that architecture. The...

    Master fader level rising

Like others have mentioned you seem to be mixing by subtraction. For me that wouldn't be ideal and inevitable problems with levels are bound to crop up. I do however think we're discussing volume more than discussing levels. Someone has already mentioned the master fader is not the place to look...
