I've got an ATM25 and would like to add a second kick that has an extended high freq response to pick up more beater. There are a lot of low cost kick mics (sub $100) that claim do this well. Have you had direct experience with any of them?
These guys an example...
So... have you also found that baritones are harder to mic than tenors for male vocals?
I'm starting to get the idea that an AT4033 on a tenor for rock/pop/country is a pretty safe bet to start with, but baritones are difficult; at least in regard to the mics I have to record with.
Is it...
So. I record dry and my recordings always lack the treble & presence that I hear in most indie/popular recordings in a typical rock setup (2 gtr, drums, bass, vox).
I hate adding EQ and do it as little as possible because at my equipment level (read: plug-ins), EQ can quickly add harsh...
Looking for a cheap ($150 max) vocal condensor for backround vocals that can be used for stacking vocals in a mix.
To me this would mean extended high frequency with rolled off bass. Prefer breathy to crunchy and prefer it to sit back in the mix more than upfront, if that can be done given...
So. I want to use my ADAT as a A/D converter going into ProTools to add 8 tracks via the optical ADAT output. I spent 6 hours trying to hook up an ADAT LX20 to a Digi 002r - and nothing.
As far as I can tell I did everything correctly. Set up the Hardware Manager and I/O settings in...
Shure SM7 or Beyer M500 (the older one)?
The main purpose of the mic will be to record live male pop/rock vocals while trying to keep as much band music out of the mic as possible (drums are in the next room with a nearly open doorway between them). I consistenly hear good things about the SM7...
I've got a Digi 002r system and am looking into adding additional inputs over the typical eight it supports. I understand that this might be done with the SPDIF, ADAT/Lightpipe, or firewire inputs on the Digi 002r but otherwise have hardly an idea of how this is done.
I've got a 20bit ADAT -...
So I'm getting around to using Reason Adapted and there was no PDF manual or otherwise installed with it. I've searched the web and there are none to be found other than a few web clips but they're not deep enough. Anybody have a Reason manual in PDF or Word form somewhere on the web? Or PM...
Ok. I've had enough of digital reverb. Why the hell... ah, never mind. Just recommend a cheap analog reverb before I start sending every mix through my Twin. Please. And buy my REV500 when it goes up on Craigslist :p
Just got a AT4033 yesterday and recorded a mariachi singer today with a beautiful midrange and strong voice. I noticed fairly little difference between the AT 4033 and Baby Bottle on his voice. The AT4033 was a little more up-front and had slightly more presence, the Baby Bottle was slightly...
I posted this in the drum forum too; my issue in this mix is the kick drum.
I recorded a thrash band with a single kick & two beaters. I used an ATM25 on the kick. When it came time to mix the band wanted a lot of click on the kick so a fair amount of high end was added with EQ, which sounded...
I recorded a thrash band with a single kick & two beaters. I used an ATM25 on the kick. When it came time to mix the band wanted a lot of click on the kick so a fair amount of high end was added with EQ, which sounded good to help it cut through the mix. The problem I had though is that the...

Bart Davenport's new album has a beautiful, sparse production sound that I love. I kept thinking the vocals must have been recorded with a Neumann or $$$ ribbon mic and emailed the engineer on the album, Sam Flax about what they used. He said they used an Audio Technica 4033 for all the...
