    My 500th Post!!!

Greetings fellow HomeRec’ers. In honor of my 500th post here, I’ve posted to recent practice recordings over at my band’s soundclick page. Why is this in the mic forum you ask? The tracks were recorded with mics and gear I’ve learned about here on the forum ;) including a pair of Peluso CEMC6s...

    Voiceover microphone

Hey crew- please help me choose: For Voiceover: Shure KSM44 AT 3060 Peluso 22 251 I need to do a quick read for a video that's airing Thurs. eve (Final Cut Pro project). Normally I would just use an RE20, but it wasn't available. Which of the above mics do you think would be best for...

    still confused about mid/side technique

I had time last night to play with some mid/side recording tests we did a few months ago. I'm still not sure if I'm doing everything right, so please help me out if you can. Here's the process: Mid mic (condenser-cardioid) above, capsule facing source Side mic (condenser-figure 8) below, side...

Example of mid/side miking for drums

Tonight I learned a different way of decoding for the mid/side miking technique. Here's what the drums sounded like before decoding: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=68265&songID=4216932 and here's after decoding...

    The TAMA Warlords

Anyone heard about the new TAMA Warlord snares? http://namm.harmony-central.com/SNAMM06/Content/Tama/PR/Warlord-Snares.html $2,600 for a snare, with jewels on the lugs? I'm a big fan of TAMA, but WTF? Are they jumping on the "collector's" bandwagon, or what? How many comic book/D&D stores you...

    New Maple Kit

Finally got my new kit last night! I'm pretty stoked! Had just enough time to set them up before I went to bed. Didn't get a chance to tune the toms yet, but kick and snare sound pretty amazing so far! Can't wait to get home, get 'em tuned up and play!

What to do about floor and ceiling

I'm gearing up to redo my recording space and would really like to hear all of your suggestions. I've got everything "covered" but the floor and ceiling. Problem #1 is the sheetrock ceiling, which is only 7 ft high. So hanging traps or clouds does not really appear to be an option. I'm...

Anything better than a Beta 58 for rehearsals?

Hey crew, I'm (reluctantly) letting a new band use my spot for rehearsals and I'm running into the typical problems of using a PA in a small space. Right now all the vocalists (4) are using SM58s and some of them are too soft-spoken to gain up before feedback. So I was thinking.... Does...

Example of three mic set up

A few people here have asked about the three mic-set up for drums, and about Peluso mics. Here's and example - Slow Blues Jam in Am - which is a good demonstration of how these mics work in this situation: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=68265 Mics used: - 2 Peluso CEMC6s...

Hey crew- I just whipped up a quick mix of a blues jam we did in the studio a few weeks back. We were just testing mics and new gear when an old friend stopped by (2:30 am). So he grabbed a strat and we layed down a slow blues in Am. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=68265...

    Why 13 inch toms?

I was wondering why standard kits typically come with a 13 inch tom. My best guess is: 1. Kits are more easily stackable (standard kits are 12" & 13" mounted toms 14" snare and 16" floor tom so you can easily stack them, especially on showroom floors). 2. A 13" tom might not interfere with a...
