Does anyone have experience of using the timecode version of the Nagra 4S? I'm thinking of buying one to make location music recordings but I need to be able to slave lock the Nagra to a PC based system which outputs LTC timecode. I would strip the timecode track on the Nagra prior to recording...

I just bought an R8 and 4030 and want to configure the 4030 to connect the R8 as a slave (DAW will be the master). Do you know the correct 4030 settings for the R8? It is not covered in the 4030 User Manual.

Well were talking about different units from the R8/4030 but yes, according to the A8 user manual, you can remote control a Fostex A8 via an 8030. The 8030 is a simple transport remote. It doesn't do any sync based stuff.

I didn't realise that the 4030 would allow the R8 Locate function to work. Just got delivery of the 4030 so I will give it a try.

I want to try and get the R8 to accept both as the MTC1 has a whole bunch of features which I want to use, most important of all is the LOCATE to timecode function which is really useful when you want to locate the R8 quickly to the DAW's current position. Ah this is a voyage of discovery!

It used to be the case that when DAWs were MIDI only sequencers then the tape machine was the master. These days the clock stability of DAWs is far superior to that of tape machines, so you definitely want the DAW to be the master and the tape machine to slave from that. I slave my Fostex G24S...
