    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Does it have a compensated bridge? I have a D'Angelico that had a piezo transducer under a compensated bridge and Am always sounded weird. Like it was out of tune, but the individual notes were in tune. I couldn't figure it out. I finally removed the transducer and installed a straight bridge...

Finally dealt with the sticky rubber case on my H4N Pro

Use gasoline on the tacky rubber. Soak a shop rag and wipe the sticky rubber off. Once the sticky feeling is gone, wipe off the gasoline residue with 99% alcohol.

    Acoustic Guitar Strings

I use D'Addario phosphor bronze EJ16 on my acoustics, and have for many years. They last a long time (probably because I'm too lazy to change them). After they have been played a few months the tone doesn't seem to change much anymore. I change them when they start looking bad.

I think the new mix sounds good.

+1 for installing an SSD. It's the best bang for the buck to speed up a machine.

Factory in China going to make me some ribbon microphones!

Very cool! It would be nice if they inscribed them "Made For Rob Aylestone".

What is missing from my studio that is important?

I have a light on the phone in my pocket. Back in my working life, I always had (and still do) a UPS on my computer. As contract mechanical designer, I could not afford to lose even the 5 minutes worth of work between autosaves. Much better to do a controlled shut down than have to reconstruct...

Cripple Creek on a cel recording

OK Laser, here you go. My wife shot this video of me performing Six Days On The Road with her iPhone 8 a couple of months ago. The audio is not terrible, but in hind sight, I should have turned a little so the guitar was not straight on to the phone because it's kind of drowning me out (maybe a...

What video editing software do you use?

Updated software is usually required if you collaborate with others or send your files to others that need to be able to manipulate the project. I ran into this in my professional life as a mechanical designer. An older version of (insert software name here), will not open the latest versions...

Electrical power cord/plug for my amplifier got wet - What to do?

Looks like a molded cord and plug. No way for water to get in there. Roll it out into the sun for a few hours if you are concerned.

    room's acoustic treatment

I agree with mjb, the boost in upper mids/top end in the vocals on the VSX version makes them pop out.

    room's acoustic treatment

I think they all sound clean, well played and recorded. I'm listening on ear buds, and the only critique I have is the outro vocals on "I Been Riding" are a little low when the harmony parts come in. I think you really did a good job.

Suggestions for a recording please - Sheryl Crow

I'm curious as to how you do this. Do you have her sing the vocals to the original Sherly Crow song, and then record all the instruments for the cover yourself? It seems labor intensive to record the cover song music first and then she changes her mind and wants to do something different.

Do you always crank power amp tubes??

I used a power soak to limit the volume when driving the amp, it's just a variable resistor load bank between the amp and speaker(s). I had a problem at practice getting the volume right. It went from too soft to way too loud. The power soak was adjustable so I put the amp volume where the drive...

    Anybody use SDCs for vox?

I've used a Rode NT5 with the foam cap on for narrations and it works fine. I want to try it on a vocal to see how it sounds.

$100 or less speech mic with more direction.

Good to know, I'll watch it the next time I have insomnia.
