    Sync Questions

I'm Clueless as to where to start with this. I dont even know how to explain it. This is what I'd like to do. 1) I want to take my recorded tracks from my 424 and mix them down to the computer (what software?... dont know yet) one or two tracks at a time 2) then mix them down back from the...

    SNARESSNARESSNARES

Ok here is a problem I've been thinking about and maybe you guys will have some tips and tricks for me. The problem is rattling snares- I record a lot of stuff live and it's a major problem. I have a compressor/gate (dbx226XL) but when I crank the gate up enough to cut out (most of) the...

    Two dumb questions

    1) how would I go about repairing a cassette tape that has been severed? what kind of tape do I use to tape the tape back together? 2) How would I know if a tape head was damaged (i.e. if it has been permanently magnetized) and could it be replaced? (just kinda curious about this one)

    Splitting a Bass signal

I guess I'll try a Y-cable to do this, but I'm sure there is a better way... My bass players GK head sounds good, but it's has this annoying habit of crackling and sputtering every once in a while. He's had it "fixed" twice but to no avail. It' still does it after everything being resoldered...

    Rode NT1 and C1000?

I'm looking to get two mics for drum overheads and for acoustic guitar and voice. In my price range it's going to be a Rhode NT1 or AKG C1000. I know that a matched pair of mics are better for overheads- but would two C1000's (or the Nt1) be necessarily matched? IF NOT, then why not try one of...

    Old(er) casette 4 track cheap

At a local music store, ther is this rackmount 4 track cassete recorder for $140. I can't remember the brand name, it started with an A (something I don't think I'd ever heard of before) It looks kinda beat up. It has four inputs with just a trim control and volume. I'm thinking it might be good...

    My externals are bouncing.

I've been experimenting with doing an external bounce from my TASCAM 424 to a HI-FI VCR. I don't have a minidisk or DAT so this is the best that I can do for now. At first I was trying to just capture the perfect mix, then I had the thought to just capture as much raw information that I can, so...

    a frustrating endeavour

So fianally after about an hour trying to get this recorded as a wave file with out it sounding like pure crap on the pure crap speakers, I tried to load it onto Just On .com but after two fifteen minute attempts (got kicked off line and still can't figure out what happened the second time)So i...

    compressed air for cleaning...

So I finally decided that it would be a good idea to get some compressed air to clean out my faders on my Tascam 424. Well, now my master volume fader is a little stuck. (I can still move it, but it hits a bump or something between 3 and 4- what a pain) I thought cleaning out those faders like...

    Fender Rhodes

I got a Rhodes 73 a few months back. And I am wondering about the two 1/4 in. inputs on the front marked for "accessories". So what are the accessories? I'm clueless about what those ins (or maybe they're outs) are for.

anyone know how to make a patchbay?

I'm planning to make my own rack. (3 spaces so it will fit under a shelf in my mixing desk, a converted computer desk) I'm sure i wont have any problems making it, but i would like to have a patch bay so that i could just plug into the front. I need all three spaces and can't fit four so i was...

    curious about Oktava

Oktava, Oktava, Octava! Never even hear of them untill I got on this forum. My questions are: Would the MK012's make good overheads for drums? Would it be better to get a mached pair if I were to use them as over heads, or would it not make a difference if they weren't in say an X/Y pattern...

concerning mixing down too Hi-Fi VCR

I haven't tried mixing down to Hi Fi VCR yet, but i have done some Video editing and whenever you make a "master" tape to do your edits you have to "black" or lay sync down to the tape (i.e. record black or put it in the camera with the lens cap on) and you lay you edits on top of that so that...

What i put in is not what i get out

I'm mixing down to a JVC deck, granted I know it's not that great quality but it's what I got. the problem is that when i mixdown and set my levels the meters and my ears tell me one thing. but when i play back the Right channel is boosed ever so slightly. I try to compensate, but sometimes it...
