Fellaz-
I am thinking about setting up a portable studio. I would probably use a laptop. What should I look for in a laptop?
What else should I get? I'm toally unfamiliar with computer based recording, and have only done hardware stuff.
Any suggestions would be much welcomed...
Well folks, the time has come that I will no longer be needing my md8. I was supposed to be a international rockstar by now, but it didnt go through. So anyway, if anyone wants it, here's the URL:

and if anyone from this board...
I watched "the net" the other day. When Sandra is in her house the camera does a quick glance at a box of 5 sony data minidiscs! Yes, they were actually sony's. We can conclude one thing from this: the producers of "The Net" do not order from musicians friend.
You all know about the great deal on minidiscs musicians friend was having. Well I, too, recieved the TDKs. No big deal, I said, I'll send them back and get my sony's. Well today I recieve my replacement minidisc's. Hmmm....these are weird sony's! They say TDK all over them! How odd...So I...
okay, this is weird. Usually, I use a patch bay with my md8. It has worked fine so far.
But today, I couldnt get hardly any sound out of channels one and two (using the XLR inputs). I thought maybe I had blown the pre-amps. So I messed with it a while, and eventually got it to work again...
I'm having a hard time syncing up my wax cylinders. Any ideas? Anyone?
this is what I'm using:

except I have 48 of them, and I need them to all play at the same time so I can do multitrack recordings.

I'm putting together the world's first pocket sized multitrack studio. I need some advice on mini midi sequencers though...
I was thinking about the Roland pma-5

or an attachment for my palm pilot...
Here's what I got:
-Shure SM57
-Sennheiser e835
-public speaking mic
-AMPEX 2001 (some kind of vintage thing)
I put the SM57 on snare, the public speaking mic on overhead (yes, it actually sounds good!),the sennheiser on the kick, and the AMPEX on the toms.
Everything sound alright except...

Im tryin to get a really even bass sound, so I fugred rather than souping up my skills, I'd just compress the hell out of it....
Anyway, I'm using an RNC and it doesnt sound very good. It seems to only be with bass, but it has some weird noises, and doesnt sound right when it comes out the...

p.s. I think the font got all screwed up, so bare with me.
Well...I try not to litter the cave with my stupid life questions, so I'll start posting them in this forum....
so here it is...
I hear you can burn videos on a regular cdr that you can play in a dvd player. (I.E. burn dvd's). Of course, you won't get 2 hours or whatever...but you should be...
I was cleaning out my grandpa's house and found a pretty old microphone. He was all into recording his journal, and family letters and stuff, and I assume this is the one he used. He died in 1981, so this has got to predate that.
Anyway, it's an AMPEX model 2001. It has a permanantly...
zoom is about to release a totally portable, pocket size multitrack. It's really fits my soon to be situation - as I will not be able to have studio equipment with me for a long time.
I'm trying to figure out what exatctly you can do. It says you have 3 audio tracks, as well as 2 internal...
Okay, let me pose a hypothetical situation here.
Let's say you are going to live in a far away land for a while. Let's say in this far away land, there's not much in the way of modern things.
So you have a choice. You can take an acoustic guitar, or an acoustic bass (I am of course not...
...as an RCA patchbay?
I want to be able to switch my RCA stereo outs between my amp, cdr, and minidisc recorder.
I'm sick of reaching around back and fiddling with things.
Any ideas?
Okay, so I kinda dropped the ball on cars, but I'm getting the part in soon, and we've been discussing a new project.
Something a little "harder" sounding. Cars is a good song...but it's not our style. You know..since we have a style.
So I think Emeric is going to come up with something...
I was at mars music and saw a special for MKI or MKII large diaphragm mics. They were only $99, the cheapest I've seen for a diaphragm mic.
Does anyone now what I'm talking about?
Are these good mics?
I hope it wasnt a fluke! I shoulda picked one up while I could still get ''em for false...
