    Check this out:

This is from a German company who do knock offs of brand goods. Thing is, although they're obviously replicas, they are built in Germany, and the quality is meant to be quite good. Cheap as hell too: HARLEY BENTON GA5 Harley Benton GA5, 5 Watt (Class A), 8" Speaker, 1 Channel, 1 Volume- and...

    An Idea:

Okay, here's a plan I came up with the other day, and I think it might be worthwhile. I want to record a collection of songs that have been referenced in various pieces of 'classic' literature - novels, plays, whatever. Generally, these are folksongs/ballads, and I feel the project could be...

    Valve Junior Speaker Question

Okay, want to make a cab to run my VJ into (it's the combo version), but I have a quick question: It's five watts, so can I run this into two 12" 35 watt RMS seakers? Or will 35 watt speakers require more power to get them moving than my little 5 watt amp can give? What is the general rule for...

Why didn't someone tell me about this?

I want one. So do you. http://www.gearwire.com/fender-champ-600-wnamm.html Looks interesting. 6" speaker a little small, but it does have a ready wired speaker jack, so that may not be too much of a problem. I have an Epiphone Valve Junior that I love, but this is Fender, after all.

    Let's get it together, people.

Okay, the songwriting forum needs a renovation. I am tired of coming in here expecting new posts and seeing nothing. At its best, this place is fantastic for discussing ideas; the thread on the role of theory in songwriting was one of the most informative I have read on this site in a long time...

    Vocalist needed - Hungerstrike

Hey guys, I need a singer to collaborate on 'Hungerstrike' by Temple of the Dog. I have a backing track I'm pretty happy with. For those of you who don't know the song it's originally sung by Chris Cornell and Ed Vedder...pretty good singers, so I'm not gonna touch it! I know it's a long shot...

    Zoom H4

Just bought one of these for 300 bucks. I wanted to use it for portable ideas, quick sketches of songs, and solo guitar pieces with no overdubs. I have an interface, Cubase SE etc. set up at home, so I just wanted something small and simple... ...And I have to say, I'm impressed. 4 tracks...

Some lyrics (translated from an old poem)

I translated this from an old piece of Irish poetry. I adapted it where I saw fit. It has been translated before by better men, but has not - to my knowledge - been set to music recently. Anyway, any thoughts would be much appreciated, as usual. I have tried to make it as fluid as possible, but...

    Some lyrics...

Finish up the whiskey, boys, and break my heart with one more bottle of wine. For the best of friends must part, and now my time has come to walk that line. Gather 'round the gallows, before my soul is swung into eternity. For the best of friends must part, and now my time has come and so must...

    New studio!!!

Hey guys, new studio owner here, just some last things to get done, but I can't wait until it's all finished! :) Yesterday I put the last board in place on the extension in the back yard, and tomorrow I'm going to take care of the soundproofing. I have, like, maybe 400 empty egg crates saved up...

I'm thinking of making one of these over the holidays....

Its a Stroh Guitar: It works like a phonograph. A thin rod transmits vibrations from the bridge to the centre of a thin mica or aluminium membrane, which is then amplified by the horn. I'm thinking of turning the 'reproducer' (the thin metal disc that holds the membrane) out of walnut, and...

    Rewriting folksongs?

Does anyone here rewrite 'traditional' or anonymous material, or even use a couple of lines from it, as part of their songwriting? What about using lines from established poetry? With regard to folksong, Paul Simon took both the melody and the sentiment of the English traditional 'Scarborough...

    Marc Ribot

    Pickguard Screws

Okay, it's a very minor issue, and one that is easily solved, but... I have had my Strat for three years, and the pickguard and pick-up screws are rusted really bad. The pickguard is black, so it's no big deal, but I was wondering...is this normal? I'm gonna change them out soon.

    Cymbal upgrade

Hey, I have a Pearl Target kit, I think it's called something different in the U.S, but it's their starter model. I want to replace the cymbals that came with it, thinking of spending 250 dollars, and I need a hi-hat and a crash. Any thoughts? Thanks. Incidentally, I'm a guitarist mainly, so I...

Read these lyrics as poetry (Spoken Word)

My friend Declan Moffett from Glenamaddy was coming home with me from London. We had been given first class tickets, and so he was septic with the drink. He had a bag of oranges under one arm as a present for all his nieces and nephews back home in Galway - "Howya lads, oranges from England" -...

Anyone want to look at these lyrics?

I will not die because of you, Although you're beauty would shame the swan. They were foolish men you killed. Do I look like a foolish man? That is all.

    Richard Thompson

Just wondering if anyone out there had heard of Richard Thompson? One of the best songwriters out there, IMO.
