Why do CDs sound better turned up?

I was listening to an Alter Bridge CD today and realized that when it was turned down, it sounded kind of muffled, muddy, and lots of bass. When I turned it up, everything evened out. Whats up with that?

CD Booklet Printing and CD Pressing

So, assuming I have a master copy of my final CD. How do I go about getting an album booklet printed up? I wanted to do probably three pages total, front and back. Where can I find the dimensions for these? I suppose I could just go measure what CD booklets are printed, but I guess I wanted...

    Amp Stands?

I'm browsing around Guitar Center (online) looking at amp stands. Am I going to notice any differences between the $20 and the $50 stand? Would I be better off just building one? Thanks!

    Looking for drum monitoring options

During practice, our drummer has a hard time hearing whats going on. However, he does have a nice set of Vic Firth headphones that I would like to run directly out from the mixer. However, for some reason, when I run out of the mixer, it is only coming out in mono (left channel). How can I at...

New "metal" song? Ovarian Omelette :S

Band came in and recorded this a few weeks ago. I have no idea where the drums came from, they gave me a multitrack of them but the drums sound off to me. I just recorded guitar, bass, and vocals. I tried uploading it to Lightningmp3 but it wouldn't take/send me an e-mail. First song on the...

For a first release, what is better, an EP or an LP

We have enough material to release an LP, but would it be more beneficial to pick our five best songs and put them on an EP record for promotional use? What do you guys think is a better route to take?

Foreshadow, a progressive rock song, lyric opinions and suggestions?

Basically, the song is about a person wanting something else out of life, to move somewhere, or to make a major change, but realizing what they wanted was here all along. The music hasn't been arranged yet, but I would like to follow the haiku styling I put forth in the lyrics, by having the...

Multitrack in EZD with FLStudio running ReWire into AA3??

I'm having such a hell of a time using the multitrack in EZD. Okay, so what is going on. I throw EZD into my sequencer (FLStudio) and make some drums. Then, I open up the EZD mixer and set it to multitrack. What is next? I'm running ReWire and having it go out to another host (Adobe...

    Finishing up disc...whats next?

We would like to implement a marketing blitz of sorts. We want to re-do our MySpace, make a more functional website, and start getting some merchandise created. What are the best ways to distribute all of these goods? We plan on going with a few different distributors for our music, namely...

    Gapless Audio CDs

Just wondering how you stitch together PCM WAVs into a gapless audio CD. Is there a utility that can do this? I use Audition as my DAW and thought I might be able to with this, but I haven't found it yet. I'd like to record live DJ sets and then split them appropriately, but still be able to...

Using Firepod + AudioBox for monitoring

So, I needed a new way to record my drummer. Recording with scratch tracks feels un-natural and the drummer has a hard time keeping perfectly in time. So, I want to do it like a studio does it...you know, throw the amp in another room, mic it, throw the vocalist in another room, mic him...

    False Paradise, new mix

Hey guys...I recently posted a lot of songs for critique and now I'm trying to work on them individually after you guys posted comments. Here is my re-mix of False Paradise after moving my mixing/tracking room around to accomodate the bad bass response. Timing issues aside, let me know how it...
