I think if the Rode was turned up as high as on the meter it would be off the scale with that bleeping. The meter is dancing all over the place and there is no sound to match except earlier some quite fan/air sound. It is weird but I cant see how it can be the mic otherwise you would clearly...

Is it a fan blowing air? I think before you go any further, if it were me I would try different leads. Cheapest and simplest options first.

So where is the noise it is showing dancing all over the meters? Can you turn up the playback volume of a recording with the mic and post a video and not talk over it?

I think you have an excellent warranty with that mic so you should have no worries. I can hear no noise but from the meter which is dancing around as if it was as background noise.........but there isnt any. I have noticed once that plugging one lead into a socket was noisier than another on...

I am the op and the cable/lead was a cheapo. A balanced with Neutrik was used as a replacement and all ok.

It will be a new venture Keith. At present still undecided but leaning very much that way. The Mix Pre 3 is still £200+ more expensive than the F6 so I am at a wonder what I am getting extra for that cash besides a name? Would these recorders be as quiet as a studio interface?

No I want a field recorder Keith and I do need quiet pre-amps for the use I need it for. I want good recorded sound for a new venture. I want to hear only what I record. Non music, nature and even some foley recordings.

Has anybody out there got any experience of the Zoom F6 sound recorder? I was wondering how quiet they thought the pre-amps are on this device?
