Are 12-inch panels an overkill for just a voice recording studio?

I had thought to add to my post that Rob would be along any moment to let me know I am wrong. I don't know where I lacked "common sense" but I answered the questions as presented with some practical advice. Yes, even backed by a bit of heavy science. When I took all those courses in acoustics...

Are 12-inch panels an overkill for just a voice recording studio?

I found a reference listing about 6k so pretty low density product compared to some of the product regionally avaible where I live (cold climate) Picking material for this is about finding what works best out of what you can get. The problem, as you might be aware, is that as the densitiy goes...

    Broken Equipment

You'll have to figure out if it is metric or SAE then figure out what thread it is and its length. Do a search for metric wing screw or just wing screw on google or even Amazon.

Are 12-inch panels an overkill for just a voice recording studio?

Coefficients below .75 are pretty much ineffective. 2.4m is about the wavelenth of aprox 200hz. (Rough guess, check my math) Cube room you'll have that in 3 axis'. 1/2 wavelenth 100hz and 1/4 50hz. Male Frequency range is 85-180 typical. Female 165-255hz. My first question is where did you...

A laptop for making music. Do brands matter?

One advantage to Lenovo business PC's is there is seemingly a cottage industry for getting service parts. I needed to get a replacement keyboard and they were cheap and easy to find. The T410 is a 5 series processor if I am correct. An 8 series would be a big jump in both performance and is...

    Minimoog plug in instrument differences.

Then I have failed at communications. No problem, just highlighting how different I found three virtual versions of the same instrument. You highlight the probable root cause. I will say, it is getting far closer than some would like to admit. In electronics, they have long been able to...

    Connecting two UMC 1820's

Mac or PC? I don't think the 1820 works as a stand alone device. On Mac you can connect both via USB and create an aggregate device in the OS to use two interfaces. On PC you are just out of luck. Why two interfaces? One interface and a ADA8200 would make more sense.

    Minimoog plug in instrument differences.

Sounds like we've got a bit in common. As a guitar player, it has been a struggle to really get in-depth with music theory. On piano, it is just laid out right in front of you. I regret not doing this years ago. That said, technology is making it a bit easier to access information and...

A laptop for making music. Do brands matter?

I'm a big fan of purchasing off lease Microsoft certified refurbished computers. I run an AV installation company with a few field techs and Refurb Lenovo Thinkpad's are my go to. Extremely durable (have had some dropped off of ladders) and reliable. Also relatively cheap if you shop it...

Narrowed it down to 3 guitars..

I look at it this way. When Japan started making guitars, they were seen as cheap, much like a lot of their products at the time, inferior with poor quality. By the time the lawsuit era came around, some Japan made guitars were seen as superior to many made in the US. Same for Korea. Initial...

    Minimoog plug in instrument differences.

Sounds like you still are against it. I'm two months into this but I know how to map midi knobs and faders if that were an issue for me. I'm also a guitar player taking piano lessons. A hardware Minimoog D is only $5k, pocket change really. An analog synth of any type is not really in the...

    Minimoog plug in instrument differences.

Or what I might call the variations in what would be considered "faithful" reproduction. In the 70's, I was friends with a number of keyboard players. I really wish I had taken the time to figure out how synthesizers worked back then. Recently I decided to see what it would take to recreate...

    Octopre Substitutes?

The clarett has dual connectors (XLR 1/4inch) both front and back. The main issue you are going to run into is that the front connectors are High Z instrument inputs and the 6 back are line, with both bypassing the preamps.

    600GB, What have I done?

I'm at about 380GB but took a detour to get and play with some of the premium bits that Cubase offered for 13 users. I had been looking at picking up Melodyne Essentials and was hoping for a sale. Got it for free instead. Been a few days of solid "let's see what this sounds like. The Mini...

    Octopre Substitutes?

Optical I covered in the above post. Glass or plastic, pick which ever you can find. Sweetwater has a bunch as does Amazon but stick to recognized brands. If you need AES EBU 110 ohm, my standard was Canare DA202AT. Markertek in the US sells it for 29 cents per foot or about $152 for a 656...

    Octopre Substitutes?

Not sure if he means analog of optical. For the OP. Do a Google search on Adat cables Glass VS Plastic. Optical cables sometimes fail but in an install where you plug in and leave it alone, extremely rare. It's light and it's digital, it either works or doesn't. I've used both without issue...

    Octopre Substitutes?

Connecting via Adat means you need at least one optical cable for in and one for out. You want both in's and out's correct? A single Adat cable will carry 8 channels at 48K or 4 at 96k. Look at the back of the basic Scarlett Octopre. It has Adat out which will go to the Adat input on your...

    Octopre Substitutes?

This is very helpful as I think most of us were approaching this as if you were also looking to add mic pre's. The Scartlett Octopre Dynamic or the Clarett both have optical in and out which is what you'll need. The Clarett version will only get you outs via the DB25. If you are not using...
