I went out this morning before work to buy an MD421 but ended up snagging a pair of art m5s instead, as the two together cost a little less than the single sennheiser. Now I've finally got a pair of ribbons to mess around with... I plan to try them as overheads first. :)
The downside is that...
...which would it be? Now obviously, a dynamic is not necessarily the preferred mic for every application but it'd be interesting to hear which mics get the most votes from all of you. Myself, I'm thinking the Beyer M88 might do a good job on most sources, including even *perhaps* acoustic...
Is it just me, or do they seem like they're off somehow? The peak meters seem alright but when I try to "master" my tunes and the RMS meter is showing just below 0db, I render it and play it on an external system and the music comes out WAY quieter than I thought it would be. Does anybody else...
This is the first mix of my band's eventual first single (there are two more tracks that I'm in the middle of mixing). I just finished this preliminary mix and I think it sounds alright, but for some reason I just couldn't get the floor tom to punch thru. I'd like it to sound meatier, if you...
i think i'm done with condenser mics for a while. with the exception of a very few mics that i've tried, the differences between most LDCs in the same price range are seemingly negligible and differences in SDCs are only slightly more obvious, to my ears. DYNAMICS, on the other hand are freakin'...
1) Have any of you seen this before?
Phoenix Pro: New Guitar Plugin Turns Hacks into Shredders
And 2) Are you as pissed off as I am? I feel like I've wasted my life learning how to play, sing, write, etc. Some noob can just buy/crack a plugin like this or autotune/melodyne and doesn't have to...
I've been under the impression that matched mics were as important in M/S micing as it is in stereo micing situations. Recently, I was told that this isn't the case. To this end, I'm gonna try to record a jazz band live in M/S and see how it goes. I'll be using my SP CS5 as the S mic but I've...
My sax guy wants to start using a clip on mic for his alto. He also wants to run it thru some wacky guitar effects. I've been doing some research for him and have found a few that fit within his budget and my standards for a microphone, but I'm curious as to why every one I've found is a...
Stuff often gets lost after gigs: cables, the occasional guitar tuner, stands, etc. Last night, after my performance, I found an MD421! I dunno where it came from or who owns it but I'm gonna record everything I can with it until somebody calls me looking for it.
Awesome. :D
I find myself fascinated by the concepts of sound directionality and its relation to the inverse square rule. Now, I'm fairly described as a beginner in the field of audio, so please correct me where I'm wrong and let's have a geeky conversation!
As i understand, sound is at its most...
I don't think that there are very many ppl here that are involved in foley work but in any case, I came across this video that shows how old radio shows were recorded. It's a fun, nine minute video that starts with a little boy setting down to listen to a program and then shows the images that...
Is it possible to bookmark a thread? There is a ton of great info in threads that has gotten buried and I'd like to have access to it without having to search it out over and over again, and I'd prefer not to have to print it all out. If this isn't possible, I'd like to suggest it for future...
I just came across an opportunity to rent a 1200sq ft loft. The ceilings are probably 20 ft high, though I haven't measured it or anything. The side walls are exposed brick, the ceiling and floor are concrete and there is a floor-to-ceiling window. Obviously this is going to be a VERY reflective...
