Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Okay, will do. Here is a test I just ran, using my flattest monitors (Edifier MR4) with no EQ compensation, testing at three different stitting and standing microphone positions. I used a measurement microphone with mic calibration. All curves have 1/3 smoothing. Red line: my usual seated...

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, changing my usual seat location for mixing & mastering is not really an option in this room, but I'll do what you suggested, as it's certainly possible to sit or stand at a different location, temporarily, when playing back mixes.

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Thanks.. When listening to music, at my normal listening position, at my mixing desk, I don't really notice a problem resonance. However, if I run a frequency sweep, I definitely notice it; the frequencies around 140Hz sound noticeably louder. It happens regardless of what speakers I use. I'll...

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

The odd thing is that I'm not hearing anything that I'd describe as an obvious 'problem resonance', whatsoever. But maybe I'd notice the difference if it was eliminated. Regarding what you suggested about using EQ, I was hoping that I could find a way to manually tweak the settings generated by...

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

A standing wave is my suspicion. A waterfall graph does shows that that resonance around 141 Hz is lingering more than any other frequency. The thing is, I don't really have any vacant wall space to add acoustic treatment. All my wals are already covered with shelves full of random boxes or...

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Hi folks, I've been experimenting with REW and Equalizer APO software, to compensate for (a) the room acoustics in my small home studio and (b) the imperefections of the speakers. In this case, I was using a pair of 3-way monitors (Moukey M20-3). The EQ compensation settings were generated by...

[SOLVED] Guitar too loud via audio interface's direct monitoring, while recording...

When I bought my UMC202HD, about two years ago, the Behringer website offered their "UMC ASIO driver" for the UMC202HD. However, I think some problems were reported and now they no longer offer that driver as far as I can see. People were recommending using ASIO4all instead, and that's what I...

It turned out that the issue was a bad connection in a jack socket.

Thanks. That one looks very interesting.

[SOLVED] Audio track in DAW much quieter than it should be...

Not that I can find. The possibility of phase cancellation had occurred to me, but the problem clips and tracks are not duplicated.

[SOLVED] Audio track in DAW much quieter than it should be...

I agree, but hopefully re-recording won't be necessary if/when the problem is diagnosed and fixed. The clips in question weren't recorded quietly; there's something amiss, because the level meter on the track indicates that the sound level of the clips should be adequately loud. I'm just not...

[SOLVED] Audio track in DAW much quieter than it should be...

Many thanks for that, Rich. I've tried various limiters and compressors, but not ReaComp, so I will try that. UPDATE: Yes! It did exactly what I needed (clip just my wild peaks), using some careful tweaking (although I don't fully understand all this plugin's features). Strangely, the next day...

[SOLVED] Audio track in DAW much quieter than it should be...

I did have a clipper and a compressor on the track, momentarily, but only in an attempt to get the volume back (it didn't work). I still have EQ plugins on the tracks. Thanks for the comment about peaks triggering a mute. I do have two or three very high peaks in the project. I wish I could...

Thanks for the suggestion, DM60, but that's not the case, unfortunately.

[SOLVED] Audio track in DAW much quieter than it should be...

Hi all. I've experienced this issue occasionally in the two DAWs I've used: Tracktion Waveform and Reaper. It seems like occasionally one or more audio tracks lose volume, without me adjusting anything on that track. In Reaper, if I crank the track level or the clip gains up more, to try and...

Equalizer APO not working in REW...

UPDATE: I tried switching for ASIO to WaveOut in my DAW's Sound System settings. That made EAPO work, but encountered major problems with sound quality after a while, so I'm now going to try WASAPI. In order to ise WASAPI, I had to change my audio interface's sample rate from 48000 to 44100...

Equalizer APO not working in REW...

Hi folks. Is anyone familiar with REW and Equalizer APO? I'm trying to compensate for room resonances in my small home studio, using Equalizer APO and REW (niether of which, I am very familiar with). I measured my room acoustics in REW, using a measurement mic and a pair of 4" active monitors. I...

Thank you for that. The files are still available. I've downloaded them, as they could be useful when calibrating my setup.

Seeking advice on connecting a passive subwoofer, in home studio...

Thank you for the tip, Rob. I did this, and have good L/R separation/distinction even below 50Hz. In real life music production, even the lowest notes I'm likely to record have harmonics well above that level, making L/R distinction even more pronounced. Now I just need to get my head around the...

Seeking advice on connecting a passive subwoofer, in home studio...

Thank you for the suggestions, Dave. Today, I tried connecting the headphone out on the audio interface to the 100W amp powering my 12" passive sub. First impressions are that it works well. I can now hear sound down to around 25Hz, whereas with the two small active monitors alone, I can only...
