    Mixing motorhead

Is anybody able to offer an analysis on how the early motorhead records were mixed? With Lemmy’s bass taking up a lot of midrange how is space carved out for the guitars and vocals? The following is a typical example of their early sound. EDIT: My own recording/mix :

    Mixing drum mics

Yes there are spot mics for all the individual drum elements ... genre is rock. it's a relatively fast track so i guess i'll make more use of the closer room mics, maybe bringing the ambient mics in just for the slightly more laid back section in the middle. I normally compress the kick, snare...

    Mixing drum mics

Hey guys, I’m doing a mix challenge for a rock track containing stems for the drum mics, of which there are many .... Ambience, OH, Front Center, Front L+R, Rear Wide, Rear High and Wide etc. As someone used to EZ Drummer, this is a little overwhelming to me lol. How should I approach mixing...

    Jesus Stole My Corvette (Surf)

Thank molena, it was the spring reverb that was adding a tonne of highs, so I simply shelved the high end from the wet reverb insert and lowered the ‘drive’ function. Plus I cut out a very narrow band from the dry guitar sound - I rarely do surgical cuts but in this case it was necessary

@CMolena @DM60 I created a music video with a slightly remixed version - does this sound a little less harsh in the high end to you? The original is in the opening post.

Electro/funk/rock satire - "The New Zillennial Dream"

Lol, I was in the middle of typing my feedback until I realised I commented last month. Really evocative track. How do you create that funk guitar tone? Is it just single coils and tonnes of compression? Also are you double tracking that solo, or just using echo?

    Bass line disappears

Boost around 900hz to 1k on the bass and notch it out of the guitars a bit. i usually high pass guitars up to 170-200hz to make space for the bass.

    Candy O

I feel like I just smoked some dodgy weed. Not my thing musically but that is expert level production on the low end.

Thanks lazer! No I used Ezdrummer for the drums (Vintage Rock).

I agree re the highs...I should have included more low strings in the backing chords to balance things out a bit as well. But then listening to vintage surf tracks, they too seem quite trebly.

    Best Reamp Boxes?

I need a REAMP box for sending DAW tracks out through fx pedals designed for instrument level, then back again. IOW I’m looking to use pedals as outboard fx in a hybrid setup. IYO what are the best Reamp boxes? Other than the radial x-amp (or anything by radial for that matter), which apparently...

    new demo- "hear the call"

One thing I like about the budwah is that it doesn’t sound shrieky like the crybaby. Even with toe down it’s got a bit of body to it

Arctic Summer - Rock/Ambient - Thoughts on this mix?

Thank you @GONZO-X I was tweaking a tremolo/phase pedal on the bg chords as they rung out, slowly making them more intense over time. I also used a whammy bar for the bendy effect. Because I’m not used to holding it in my hand while picking chords it took several attempts to record those parts...

    new demo- "hear the call"

Great production - nice wah fills (I have the same wah ;)...it's amazing isn't it?). Nice guitar sounds well. I reckon it would be more effective as a shorter number, but that's nit picking really.

Electro/funk/rock satire - "The New Zillennial Dream"

That sounded great - retro vibes but at the same time quite contemporary sounding. I love that funky guitar tone and pulsating bassline.
