Using a condernser mic on a bass drum?

Hey dude...if I'm reading my info correctly, the 2020 handles 144 spl and I believe the kick peaks at around 130 spl. This will vary (naturally) on the style of drums but I think 130's close. From those numbers, I'd think you'd be ok but hopefully someone with more surviving brain cells will...

I've been eyeballin these things for a few months now and have read far more good reviews than bad so..... Those of you with a Masterlink, what's YOUR thoughts? Is it worth the $600 to $800? Had any problems with it? Is the 40 gig enough for you? Can you get it rack mountable? I've been...

??? Cables from head to cab...???

Guru's of the fretboard...lend me your ear...:D I know...I know... So my son went to a local guit-fiddle shop and the dude there told him that regular patch cables for running from head to cab were a no-no and that he should get these fat (12 gauge, 10 gauge ?) 1/4 "speaker cables"...

New Mapex drums or better cymbals...?

OK...I admit it. I've got G.A.S. :D The drums I've got now (given to me) are a cheap 5 piece set of Sunlite (generic, I think) with Aquariun heads, genera dry on one of my snares, 1 decent cymbal, cheap ride, crash and HH's. The drums don't sound bad but I've never had my own set to compare...

    My overhead choices......Thoughts?

Currently, I'm using the Recorderman method with a pair of Shure KSM 109's on OH. I'm thinking of trying the Glen Johns method using a pair of SP B1's cuz I heard you need LDC's for Glens method to work better and the B1's are the only pair of LDC's I have. My other's are one AT4050. one Cad...

    Country kick sound...

I'm doing drums for a country track (not my forte') and my kick is sounding like a metal kick (my forte' :D) I have a Beta 52 inside, pulled back to just inside the reso and a diy subkick. I also replaced one of the beaters to the white padded ones to get a softer thump instead of the click...

    Neck repair.......again.

So a friend gave me an Epi LP set neck with a wasted headstock and broken neck. It was bad. The headstock itself was broken in half with the other half missing. So I made and shaped the other half and set it with 2 roll pins and some Tite Bond glue. Where the top of the truss rod is...is where...

    wood floors under drums...?

After checkin out TelePauls drum setup pics, (nice place, btw ;)) I started to wonder if the pain-in-the-ass factor would be worth it to do a wood floor of some kind under my drums...? How much of a diff would it make in the "life" of my drums? Right now it's carpet over the cement floor in my...

A PA/mixer hookup question for you...

My son bought a Peavey PA 400 amp/mixer (210 watt, 2 ohm) with a pair of Peavey SP1 (loud as hell) speakers. I gave him a Mackie CR1604 mixer awhile back. The question... Can we run the L/R OUT of the 1604 mixer INTO inputs (say) 1 and 2 of the PA 400 without toasting anything? The idea is to...

    Ac guit/ vox at once...?

What would be the best configuration to track acoustic guitar and vox at the same time? I pondered an AT 4050 at the singer, turned slightly up in cardoid mode and a KSM 109 SDC about 5 inches out at the bridge. I know it would be best to track em separate but we've tried this before and it's...

Need a new head for my Piccalo snare...

OK...I did a search and came up with a bazillion choices so I figured I'd ask for a bazillion more...:D It's a metal piccalo snare about 3, maybe 4 inches deep and I need a new batter skin. Maybe the reso too if you real drummers think I should change it. Care to offer up your thoughts? Much...

    4 ohm or 8 ohm...?

I've got a 2X12 cab that I'm putting a pair of 8 ohm Celestion V30's. If I wire it in series, I'll have a 16 ohm cab. Parallel will give me a 4 ohm cab. I've got 2 heads, both with 4 and 8 ohm outs. What's the norm with 2X12 cabs? What say the gurus that abound herein? :D

    Another copywrite question

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I hang out here alot so here it is... :D Would a copywrite still be valid if we sent off some acoustic/vocal versions of songs we're doing even though most of them will have other guitars, bass, drums etc added to them later? By adding other instruments...

    Guitars...cases or on the wall?

Maybe you guys can help to settle a small dispute. My thoughts are that guitars are best kept in their cases. Humidity, temp, safe...etc My pal sees no point in them other than from home to gig to home Hang them on the wall with hangars that you can buy in any guitar store. Dust em off and...

    Rogue Guitars.........?

Maybe I'm the last to know (again) but I'd never even heard of them til I got a strat for Christmas. All I wanted was a different sound. This thing was dirt cheap and actually sounds pretty good! I was shocked! Got a little fret buzz to fix and the tuning heads are a little lacking in...
