    Recording classical music

I heard the clip and it does sound distant. It also sounds mono, though it may not be, but I don't hear any real stereo separation at all. Where do you have your mics placed? Which mics and how many? If the brass is overpowering the choir, the conductor needs to address that. It's basically...

New Song Day - Little Miss America

Hey Pete. Thanks for the listen. Yup, I was planning to add an organ and some variations on the drums. Got those complete and in the third mix below. Thanks for listening. Sorry, can't help ya with tightening up the performance. Eh, you know me.... I really try to stick to one style of...

New Song Day - Little Miss America

Okay. I've redid the vocals and then made a lot of other little changes. When doing the vocals, I retracked a smoother delivery then added in the previous vocal take that ya'll hated (except KC - thanks dude) as a sub layer. Solo'd you can hear the previous vocal track underneath, but in the...

New Song Day - Little Miss America

I haven't put up any new crap in quite a while, so here's some new crap for you guys to listen to... or not. I came up with the idea for this song today and kept working on it to get it done. I am considering adding a gritty B3 organ part, but not sure yet. As always, all comments welcome...

    The Mirror

Finally got another video done. It only took about 3 years to figure out how I wanted to do it. When I shot the video, the lighting was really bad. Then I found a trick to kind of make it look like a cartoon and it helped to minimize the shadows. The song was in the clinic about 4 years ago...

    Shure KSM141 thoughts?

yup. I bought some 137's from Moresound a while back. Great mics for concert band, ensembles, duets, quartets, etc... I used them in spaced pairs to record my kid's middle school jazz band. I wasn't expecting much, but they did pretty good. Here's a clip of the school band, warts and all. About...

    5400 RPM drive

Here's my HDD caddy. It has the original laptop drive in it and is now the data drive. I put an SSD in the hard drive bay as the O/S drive. The caddy is swappable, though maybe not Hot-Swappable and you can put the dvd drive back in if you need it. It is for a Dell laptop and cost me $14usd...

Focusrite interface - sound screwed up whenever computer sleeps

The other thing is to go to each USB hub and uncheck the box for sleep mode. Right click on Computer> Manage>Device Manager> USB Hub>Properties>Power Management.

How do I cover the insulation?

I used carpet tack strips. They are cheap and work pretty well for panels that aren't prone to movement. Meaning, I put one on a door and it kept falling off after so many opening and closings. Eventually I decided I didn't really need a panel on that door. But on the walls, they are still up...

Pain By Numbers - Chili's Version

Okay. Retracked the vox and made several more changes. Removed the stupid rimshot on the end of the snare fills. Sounded good when I put it in last night, but when I listened this morning..... :o Let me know what you think. <crickets>

Pain By Numbers - Chili's Version

Okay, here's mix #2. Some tweaks here and there. Drums, guits, bass. Give you all something to laugh about until Rami can get to doing the drums fer-real. No vocal changes yet, except maybe for a little automation edits. Gonna try to retrack vocals this weekend. I'm hoping anyways...

Pain By Numbers - Chili's Version

Thanks Mr. Clean. I'm too nice a guy to get mad like that. :D. But I might give it a try at some point. I'll probably retrack the vocals this weekend. Thanks for the listen. For now, here's the part for Rami.... click on one side and song minus my drums on the other. In the infamous...

Pain By Numbers - Chili's Version

Rami and I had a little race to see who could put out a song of the same name. He won, but here's my version. A quick 3-n-out. I did some things different. Upgraded to Cubase 7.5 over the weekend and it changed my work flow a little. All comments welcomed. (Newer mix in post #21)...

Pair of SDC's around £500 for classical recording?

I used a T-bar with about 75° angle and 5 ft away from the ensemble. No EQ, just a little limiting to get the volume up. Here's another. Give it a minute or two and you can hear the clarity of the high notes. Love these mics.

How do I get these connectors out without doing damage?

Those are Molex connectors. You should be able to squeeze the sides of the connectors to release the latches. I tried googling a pic of them so you can see what they look like, but Molex makes soooo many types of connectors, I can't find one that exactly matches what you have. Here's something...

NSD - New Song Day - Pagoda Tree

I've been working on this song for the last coupla years. It's gone through many transformations and I think I'm stopping with this one. It's long, over 6 minutes. I hope it holds your interest. It's different from what I've been doing lately. All comments are welcomed so TELL ME WHAT YOU...
