    How is this done

Templates and "go, no go" , calipers, etc. Reproducing shapes is old science. The final finishing, which does vary and was usually done by a craftsman, is often skipped or approximated and automated now.

Is the meaning of a song important to you ?

For the most part it seems to depend on the genre. In most pop music the sound of the vocal is often more important than the content which is why we have hits in the US by artists singing in other languages( Falco's Rock Me Amadeus, Nene's 99 Luftballoons, etc), nonsensical or unintelligible...

    Keepin Time?

I was watching "Hitsville: The Making of Motown" and there was this cool bass figure that I want to steal so I picked up a handy guitar to work it out. As usual, it turned into a random jam of various ideas. So I am tapping out four with my left foot, just keeping time, when it hits me that to...

Is it an upgrade, or am I just bored?

The Perception has an average bright chinese capsule no different from any mic in this price range. There is a much better mic here : http://pmiaudio.com/product/cs-1000/ on sale. This is a step above the average Chinese capsuled mic IMHO.

    recording acoustic guitar

I have used a 57 and found for me that it works best very close to the fretboard, like 3-6 inches close and pretty close to the center of the fretboard around the 5th fret. I know it's different from using a condenser but that is what works for me.

    recording acoustic guitar

You may have to limit dynamic range using compression and force the track to feel "smaller" using very short delay (less than 20 msec) , filtering, eq and reverb. Acoustic guitar, or even a close mic'd electric's speaker can generate a large spectrum of frequencies, as do many other instruments...

    Micing speaker for mixing

Electronic drums sound best through an amp designed for keyboards. Vocals usually sound best through bass amps. I don't know why, they just do. The idea of recording amped anything is to get a "live" feel from the sound. Works good.

    SG Strap Button Relocation?

This whole thing seems strange to me. I bought a Gibson SG ' reissue in ~ 84 ish. It absolutely does not neck dive or flop. I love this guitar. I have the strap set so that the body stays in about the same place standing or sitting ala the B&W photo above. I am a old sorta fat dude now, but I...

    Master fader level rising

You haven't mentioned it yet so maybe you are already are doing "dynamic" balancing. If you don't already know, dynamic balancing is using automation to feature different parts at different parts of a song. Volume, pan, eq, and compression changes to highlight different things using automation

    Master fader level rising

Also if you lower your monitor level you will find yourself turning stuff down less often and usually ending up with a better track balance IME

    Simple musical equations ?

Define "better" and "good" please. Popular is almost always dumb lyrics and simple chord sequences. It appeals to the common denominator. You and I may have completely different views of what constitutes good and poor. So subjective a question makes me hesitant to even think about a response

    identify a vocal effect

There are several plugins that specialize in this sort of vocal manipulation. I hear pitch shifting, delay, modulation and distortion. Waves Ovox, Izotope Vocal synth, etc.

What ? Eh ? Run that by me again ?

Clipping, squaring off the tops a bit I think. Distortion and saturation add harmonic content as well as squaring wave forms. Clipping just squares stuff. I would call that grit. In most of the ads for software "grit" is often used to describe "preamp saturation" emulation in "channel strip"...

What ? Eh ? Run that by me again ?

48 has become the most commonly used, but IME the bit depth is what really counts. 24 bit or better and dither as last step. Next to last if converting to MP3

What ? Eh ? Run that by me again ?

Phase = one syllable ,Polarity = three syllables. Just normal humans shorthanding, usually with the "You know what I meant." last word.
