Like the sound from the PA but not in the box

I guess you could do that type of reamping...but the more common use is for recording guitar tracks DI into the DAW, then running the track out to different guitar amps and dialing them in to taste. Mostly done to allow people the option of not committing to an amp sound during initial...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

If you're going to use a player piano and MIDI values as your explanation of why things will always sound the same...mmm...I think your perspective is rather simplified and somewhat myopic. So in your mind, everyone that buys a Fender amp and plays it...they will all sound the same...??? You...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

If there are differences in the dynamics...it won't sound the same. Also, it's not just dynamics, it's about which of the six strings on a guitar are hit sooner/later and harder/softer that will change the sound of the chord harmonics....so again, it won't sound the same. I think you're maybe...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

It is the same chord, but there are like a million ways probably that someon can play/strum that "same" chord...so it certainly will sound different. I have NO idea what MIDI information has to do with that...? I'm talking about plugging a guitar into an amp...there's no MIDI involved.

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

Yeah...especially on a guitar. With six strings, it may sound like you are hitting all of them exactly the same way on each strum, but if you ever had a need to cut up a rhythm guitar track and attempt to piece in chord strums from one section to another or something similar...that's when you...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

Yes...for sure. Putting all your bets on one piece of gear won't get you there. Your entire signal chain needs to be pretty much on the same level, and that includes the performance, arrangement and every other aspect of the production. I mean, you might hear a difference from one piece of...

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

Yes there are other variables to consider...but that doesn't dismiss THAT particular gear as being somewhat key in getting those sounds. The REDD and EMI stuff was/is not your average vanilla gear.

Preamp for recording Beatles type music

In many cases, yes...but in this case, the REDD preamps (and other REDD circuits along with the EMI TG stuff) were powerful tone shaping tools that were new designs not seen before, and the Beatles used them on everything and pushed them to the max. There's a few pieces recreated by Chandler...

    New studio space...considering my options.

I found this other picture that shows the opposite angle...so yeah, there's some nice space behind that Neve. I absolutely LOVE the whole open space concept...that's always been my favorite layout. Here's another one - Stuart Staples (Tindersticks) studio in France....it's a private space...

    New Amp Day...!!!

So in all the commotion of the day...I completely forgot to mention the new amp that showed up at my door. :) I scored a Fender '57 Custom Twin Amp. This is not the high-powered Twin...but the 40W Tweed, which has been called by many "one of the best amps ever made"...but that's...

    New studio space...considering my options.

I recently mentioned in the Prime "goals" thread that I was possibly going to be doing a studio expansion in the near future. Today I met with a contractor, and we kicked around some ideas. This will involve an addition, and also some overall house remodeling...but the addition and the existing...

SEARCH FOR: Tape Machine Mounting Brackets

Hi I had a G-16 for many years...it came with the standard rack mounting brackets by default, they are part of the machine...so I'm not sure why you need to rig something, unless someone removed them from your machine...? You can see the brackets and mounting holes in the picture you posted:

    My Studio

I just ordered a new run capacitor, but I ended up getting it from BB Organs, only because they accept PayPal, the Tone Wheel General Hospital doesn't. Anyway...same capacitor at both places...but one thing I'm puzzled by...the original caps are 3-wire...but when I look at these new ones, I...
