i.e. the all-out bargain--bang for the buck--all-agreed--best under $1000--winner like the RNC [which is really under $200]. Or is the RNC an anomaly.

Here is the scenario:
Recording intimate folk/pop/alt.country type stuff at home with BR-8. [read: wilco, del amitri, elliott smith, david gray type stuff]
Mostly just layered acoustics [i have nice ones] and vocals [they can be a bit suspect].
I currently use an Art MP, RNC and Equitek E-100...

For example, Elliott Smith seems to use a "stereo" or doubling effect to build a song's presence or tension. In the first verse the vocals sound great...
