    Dahlquist M905

Over the weekend I scarfed up a pair of Dahlquist M905 speakers at a garage sale. They are in oak and without stands. The tweeter fuses were blown so I piooed in 2 new ones and have a nice working set of speakers. They are a little too big to use for nearfield monitors (and I still need a set of...

    Recomended Bulk Eraser ?

I have been getting along without a bulk eraser for a while now and do at some time need to get one. I'm sure that the radio shack model would work but I would like a Teac E-2. Are they rare enough to comand a $150 price as is currently on eBay?

Why is the ampex atr100 so reviered?

I'm having fun working on this atr-700 I've got and that has brought me to a lot of pages speaking of the Ampex ATR-100. So why is this deck so much better that some others? I can think of a number of reasons one deck would be better than an other... sound quality due to - heads -...

    Ampex ATR-700 half track

So I won an ATR-700 that I have not picked up yet. I'm starting this thread as a point for the collective wisdom on them. (searching gives scant results) Does anybody know where to download manuals? I would rather download than buy. (duh) If you have a manual set and would loan it I would scan...

How hot can 32 and 34b heads be driven?

One of the reasons that tascam 32 and 34b cannot be calibrated to +9 tape is that the electronics will not "adjust" to that level. Let's ignore that limit for a moment assuming that the record amp could changed. The question is: do we know the maximum levels that the record head will take...

    Synergy (Larry Fast)

In looking up the electronic music I like for a cave post I read (reread) the jacket notes on one of my Synergy albums. Larry lists the hardware that he used to record his Moog synth. I've reposted the tape pare here for general interest. Of course all of the pioneers with Moog used tape. It...

Anyone interface a DX-4D to their 32? I have picked up one and I'm looking for manuals/schematics/info and alignment information. I have a 32 Manual and a 3440 manual so once I figure out the control pin function I should be able to build an adapter to the 32 and 3440 and who knows what...

    3440 comming soon

I picked up another 3440 off ebay the other day. It has a problem with the transport not running.... Hopefully not too hard to fix. The nice thing is that it comes with new heads (less than 10 hours on them) and NAB adapters. Looks like it is in good condition otherwise. It should be fun to work...

    Grandmaster Ampex 2500

One of my early master reels (of a harpsichord recital) from about 1978 was recorded on Grandmaster Ampex2500. The Tape code is 356-1731J1. Does anybody know when it became 456 and if this is the same formulation? As I recall I got this from Greg Smith of SoundSmith Studios and that Grandmaster...

(removing tape from reel) More fun than a barrel....

...of monkys I picked up a pile of 7" reels of Ampes Data tape (797 i think). I just wanted the reels and not the tape. The tape is shedding and dirty so I did not want to run it through the deck. I futzed around pulling tape off by hand for a few reels and then hit upon an idea! So I...
