    Startouch pedals

These are the best inexpensive switcher pedals...right?...without spending $200. I've read nothing but bad news about the Morley, Art, Boss switcher pedals, ..from racking the sound, to hums, to clicks when switching, to loss in volume, etc. http://www.startouchpedals.com/home.html

    Jackson guitars

I'd like to spend about $500 or less and get a good shred guitar. The Jackson reverse dinkys look so cool to me, and I'd love to get one. I think I need to make a Nashville trip in the next week or so, and see if I really like them or not. Wadda ya all think of the dinks? And...I've never...

if the MXL2001 is such a crappy mic,

why are they still being bought and sold? Granted, the price has dropped, but the package with the 603 seems to be going strong. Ok...tell me the obvious :D

    Neve 1073

can a home recordist get good use out of these expensive re-issues? I have only heard an original a looooong time ago, and have no basis for how they compare to something nowadays...plus I was just basically blown away by the studio at the time. Or would everything tracked thru them be a...

    If a SM58 is so like a

SM57, why does it "seem" 9 out of 10 engineers would NOT put a SM58 on a guitar cabinet, snare, etc? I don't believe I have actually ever seen a SM58 on a snare, unless that was all that was available...no choices, etc. Pretty much the same on a Marshall stack.... usually the 57.

need a stand to hold a guitar in playing position

a stand like Steve Howe had... so you can just walk up to a guitar (while probably holding another guitar on a strap) and play it. I would like to "suspend" an acoustic guitar on such a stand and have it available to play, but then have my electric on my strap. Potentially, I will probably...

    ProCo Rat.... TS9 tube screamer...etc..

I use/have a early 80's Rat that I just think is fantastic. Love it to death. I'd consider getting another one as a backup, and am wondering how different the reissues are over the older ones...or the Rat2 for that matter. Big differences? I figure Ebay is the route to go. Also... how 'bout...

    Alesis Wildfire amps

Anyone try these amps? I have not been able to find any in music stores. The 60 watt version looks pretty good for $200 (and you get the footswitch/expression pedal board for free thru 12/31 at Musicians Friend). I haven't heard too much about the Spitfire amps, and wonder if these are much...

    In General...

Do you think that the quality of your final recordings are limited by the equipment you own, or do you think that you have yet to use your current equipment to its fullest? AND!!!... none of this "Mutt Lange on a cassette multitracker would sound better than...." etc, etc... I want to know...

small PA system for guitar rig?

I've got a new gig at a church playing guitar. It is a fairly large church in a room for about 500 people. There is a decent sound system, but ONLY the mics for the vocalists (about 10) and the keyboards(and sequencers, etc.) are run thru the PA. (the keyboards are far more the dominant...

    Sony plugins... wadda ya think?

I'd post this in the Sonic Foundry forum...but it's now Sony!! ...but seriously, thought it would get quite a bit more attention over here. Anyway... wadda you all think of the Sony plugins that come with CD architect 5.0. ...especially their multiband compression plugin? Besides the generic...

    learning about virtual synth programs

where is a good place to start to learn about what the different synth programs do, their strong points, etc? Some of the program names are fairly obvious, but many not so... What would be great; ....... a list of the software programs with a brief explanation of their "type" of sounds.

    switching computers with CD architect

so, I switched computers that I want to use CD architect with...mainly because of wanting to use a faster burner than my now outdated SCSI Plextor drive. I come to find out that switching computers and OS, I need a new activation code, or whatever, and can't even upgrade (to my knowledge). I...

    re20 vs AT4033

ok...so we are dealing with apples and oranges here. But I did a session and grabbed my favorite re20, but decided to stick the singers personal at4033 along side and ran it to a different track. The 4033 sounded VERY different. I was shocked. Thin, but clear...but like a cheapie mic. I...

anyone using a tv for monitor

I have a situation that in some instances I could use a LARGE screen for computer recording. Anyone used/using a large TV...like a 27"+, with a video card with a TV out? I don't really care toooo much about quality, but need to see the screen from 10' away or more at times. Going that big...

where can I find small light bulbs

specifically the bayonet style, 12 volt ones for the gooseneck fittings on mixing boards, etc. Radio shack only has ones with a 30 hour life span and I have been stumped doing a search on the internet. Found plenty of places, but not enough description know no which ones to order. I could use...

    external hard drives

am I correct in thinking that an external drive connected with USB 2 will transfer data as well as an internal setup as a master/slave setup on the typical ribbon cable? Would this be a good situation on an audio recording computer to use an external in this hookup (or by firewire), rather than...

    MXl603 = MXl991??

Is it agreed that the 603 is just a more expensive version of the 991 and being replaced by the 993 (which also has a low cut filter and -10dB switches)? btw...I just got the 990 and 991 "kit" at Guitar Center in Nashville for $75, so I bought two. 4 half decent mics for $150...not a bad deal.
