I didn't want to hijack the other thread. But the "logging tape" question has been making me think.
Here are the published specs for several Ampex/Quantegy tapes.

Coercivity 350 ±10% Oe (27.9 ±10% kA/m)
Retentivity 1260 ±10% Gs (140 ±10% mT)

I have a reel of that still sealed! And it's already on a pretty Scotch precision reel. Bought off eBay years ago for some ridiculous low price. the guy had a bunch more and i snagged only one right as the auction ended. The rest didn't sell but he didn't relist!
Two thoughts:
1. that video is then compressed down to some kind of mp3... so I'm wondering how it really sounded.
2. Yeah, tape sounds better, while I mostly listen to 320kbs mp3s in my car and rarely my mid 70s hi-fi at home....
That said, the small amount of stuff I've actually recorded...
OT but the same thing happened to me, bought an Otari that was 1/4 track record (1/2 track playback) took me physically looking at the heads and the owners manual and scratching my head
Not affiliated with seller. Asking US$70 including shipping, that's US$10 for a brand new precision reel and case.

Slightly veering OT, but one of my favorite new bands, Death Valley Girls, I believe recorded their most recent album on 2" 24-track. The lead guitarist is a Gen-Xer from the OG Seattle scene, but I'm pretty sure the rest of the band are a lot younger.
Some of it I'm sure is the...
As an aside, it chokes a bit on guitar with higher levels of compression (which is consistent with many descriptions) but I'm using it with a Rhodes in bad need of regulation and it works pretty well ahead of a Behringer phaser.
Just a FYI for the masses here, I built one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Compressor-Professional-Guitar-Effects-Pedal/dp/B01D12ZWBK
It's a straight DOD 280A clone. It comes with a 4558 opamp and a LED/LDR combo. I tried various opamps TL022, TL062, 1458, & TL358 and so far found the TL358...
Maybe software for composing or sequencing and then otherwise Hardware. If you can't afford vintage there's Behringer. Maybe somewhat disposable, but at 1/3 -1/10 price...
Anyone here using one? So just picked one of these up pre-modded. (More expensive tubes (!) and the Kenetek T4B) Always wanted an optical comp (built the EPFM one, but have never put it in a case) Just looking for input on setting it up. Haven't tried it out yet.
The output meter has a +10dB...
So, a long while ago, when the user interface was different you could click on a "print thread" or a "thread view" icon, and well, print an entire thread. That feature seems to have been 'Upgraded' away, with a prettier, but less functional interface. Any way to do that?
It's a right pain in...
I have a Kurzweil Mk III. I bought it to relearn how to play 22 years ago, and it had the most realistic action and a decent sound. I also have a Nektar LX25+ that's for farting around with on vacation and a M-Audio 61 something or other. That was to tide me over until the ARP gets back from the...
