    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

I can hear the problem plain as day in both those clips. The issue I'm talking about hasn't been addressed at all from what I can hear. Resonance/ drone/ sympathetic overtone/ ugly noise/ unwanted noise...I mean whatever we wanna call it or not call it. Another analogy might be that it's kind of...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

To paraphrase Jimi Hendrix...maybe now you can't hear it...but you will... There's absolutely a resonance/ drone/ overtone...thing going on particularly evidently when the Am chord is played.

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Yeah. I was even stupider than I am now back when I bought this guitar. I will probably go buy, well yeah I mentioned that a bit ago...a Yamaha or Epiphone or something. Thanks everyone.

Capo raises the pitch obviously. Back when I bought this Martin I wouldn't have been able to tell one dud guitar from the next. I do recall the bloke at the shop chortling to himself as I handed over the cash.

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Well 60's guy...when you hear it...you'll hear it. Where do I hear it...audio clip or when playing? Both. Hey Bird Garden...thanks...but I got to say...if someone asked me to listen to that clip and they asked me to write down 1000 possible causes of the issue...I reckon it sounds like the top...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Yeah I'm not playing 6 strings on the Am. Short burst chords is something I've done in the past and it takes the issue out of the picture. But I like to try doing songs with strummed acoustics. I'm not the greatest strummer in the world but I think I should be able to strum an acoustic guitar...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

It has been pretty humid over this summer here in my part of Australia, but I'm in a pretty mild region overall. There's little danger for guitars compared to areas that go from snow to searing heat etc. It never snows here. The temperature and climate are mild. It's hot in summer yeah. But it's...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Yep. I'll just go and buy a Yamaha if I can't make it good with a bit of maintenance. Or an Ibanez or an Epiphone or something. I haven't ever really had much luck with acoustic guitars. The om28 was pretty bad and I have a now discontinued Taylor GC5 that's extremely scratchy and touchy in the...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Yeah I know you mean well in suggesting pro help. I'm well aware my decision to kybosh luthiers is stupid. But I own the decision, its my responsibility and all that and I'm 100% good with it.

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Yeah it's never, ever been a great guitar, sadly. I agree about the binding issues. This D28 is ok in that regard but I did have a Martin om28 which I've since sold from around 2014/15 - the time period Martin were experimenting with new binding glue...which failed all around the waist on this...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Thanks yeah that'd be a good idea but I haven't gone to luthiers in quite a while on account of them all being deceptive liars and grossly overcharging conmen around here. No offense at all to luthiers in general.

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

Thanks everyone. No, not saying it's only bad when recording. I'm saying the resonance/ overtone is clearly coming directly from the guitar. That's how the guitar sounds all the time. Strings are quite new...reasonably new. Not an issue. 12 gauge strings. I say "horrible resonance"...this might...

    2008 Martin D28 - horrible resonances

I bought this guitar in 2009 or so. To get right to the point...it's full of ugly overtones regardless of the room I play it in. These ugly overtones manifest most brutally when I'm strumming chords around the first 3 frets. Like I'll play Am to G to C or something and there'll be this horrible...

Hey Dr, thanks. I'm thinking that it might be a good option...do the mix as best I can and then send for mastering. I am familiar with Massive Mastering. he's on these forums isn't he? I don't suppose you'd care to ballpark what his fees are for a single 3min song mastered? EDIT: Just looked it...

I deleted it because I was obsessing over how crap everything sounded on laptops or phones when listening on soundcloud. Pretty dumb huh?

Too kind as usual Talisman. What did you listen to it on? If you don't mind telling.

    Transients, limiters and LUFS

I keep having an issue where, and I'll throw out some numbers...my mix is peaking at -6db with an average level of about -22lufs. My goal for the master is to be about -12.5lufs. I master it with some very light compression, maybe half a db. Then I use a clipper, driving into the clipper...

    Transients, limiters and LUFS

Well, I'd love to say that -9lufs is astronomically gargantuan. But in this century I know it's not. So...as a layman...try sidechaining. Since snare hits are fleeting, use sidechain compression to duck other stuff out the way of the snare. You can duck the bass, all the guitars, whatever. This...

Not really grimtraveller. The song that Talisman got the image from was one that just had no or very few alternate midi loops that worked so I only used one or two options and some fills. It doesn't surprise me that people picked up on how much it sounds repetitive. What makes it worse probably...
