    "New" Win XP box

So this is a spin-off of the Firewire/USB thread. If you have read that you know the intro The short version is the old box came back to life with a new power supply. XP is up and running, my 2 audio interfaces both work at least on the output side. I have a bunch of mp3s on the box and they...

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

Yeah I will. Got a few paths to try and nothing but time to lose - so far. lol First thing is to move all my old files onto newer HDs for safekeeping and then load a newer version of Reaper onto my Win10 box and make sure I can load the old stuff. I'll just use onboard audio for play back for...

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

The XP box is based on an Intel DG33TL desktop board - at the time alleged to be the last desktop board they would make - with a Core2 Quad core running at 2.4 ghz. As I said before it is a nice unit for me - suits my purposes. I still use the Omnistudio for playback through the near fields but...

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

Quick update. New power supply arrived yesterday. I dropped it in this morning and the old system is running like new. Good for now but I still want to see if I can finagle a way to bring the Audiofire into the modern world.

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

It's not really "fascination" like restoring an older car. It's more that the stuff I spent good money on is essentially junk now. That pisses me off. It was good enough for me then it would be good enough for me now but it's lifespan is essentially limited. How long can I keep it going?

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

Meaning no disrespect James. I've looked at your website and I am impressed. The guy Steen linked says otherwise but he was focused on video. I have a PCIe card with a Via chipset I bought a few years back to try an upgrade from my old XP box. It didn't work then but I did not follow those steps...

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

I started to explore that path a couple years ago with a similar (same?) card. I could not figure the drivers out. Maybe I should give that approach another try. Any idea where to find those drivers? Thanks.

Thanks James. A bit beyond my pay grade I'm afraid. The only thing I know about TI is they used to make calculators.

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

I have seen a few MOTU units with PCI cards on Ebay - c$200. Worth looking at? Drivers an issue?

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

Thanks Rob. I actually have an XP box. It was the balls in 2008! Currently needs a power supply - I hope that's all. It worked a year ago! I would like to upgrade but didn't want to re-spend all that money from those days!

    Firewire to USB - Thoughts?

I thought I had posted this back along but search results are zero and maybe technology is better. I have a legacy (I guess) Echo Audiofire12 AD/DA converter. Lovely piece, worked great 15 years ago. No longer around or supported. What's the odds of bringing this to life with a converter...

How (what) to strip down Win10

Putting together a refurb PC for DAW duties. I5, 32gb RAM, Win10 64 bit, SSD for OS & progs. What is the current best practice for stripping down the OS, updates and etc.? This box will only go online if necessary. The last one I did was an XP machine over ten years ago. I am way out of touch...

    Echo Audiofire 8

After many years of sitting idle I am looking to fire up a new recording computer. My old box was a quick for its day XP machine with mirrored hard drives and Midiman and Echo Audio digital I/O converters and whatnot. (Shit I can't remember the lingo...) Anyway the Audiofire was a very nice...

    What's in your guitar collection?

Thanks. The ASAT is a totally different guitar than a Strat or Tele. The maple neck is the only common item. I don't care for Strats much but I love my Tele. The ASAT is more like a 335 than a Tele, being hollow. Very open with a bit of chime or bell tone. It also has coil tapped Seymour Duncan...
