Which programs can convert .cda files to .wav? or.. what programs can edit .cda?

I have a TDK cd recorder and i want to make a digital connection from my akai... It only came with one cable, and the manual states there is a difference between standard RCA cables and "digital" RCA cables. Is there really a difference?

Radio shack has these "instrument mics" that have the drum rim clip etc. I know everything from Radioshack is supposed to be crap, but these look decent. I've heard a recording where someone used them and they sounded just as good as anything else i've heard, and they look rad for $50 a pop...

do you run your signals through your preamp or your compressor first?

Pardon my complete ignorance....i have a preamp and it has the option of a balanced XLR out and an unblanced 1/4" out and i'd like to know the difference. Thanks a lot Tyler
