    The Weight

Thanks for listening and the feedback. Bass and drums and tambourene were recorded live - along with guitar and vocals. But the vocals and guitar(s) were replaced later on. The keys were also added later. I wasn't aiming for anything other than a track that hopefully sounded good. A live...

Interesting thought. Archived for when I have some extra time to kill.

Doh! I suspect when I uploaded the new file, I never hit Save afterwards. Anyway, think I fixed that. Thanks for you input on the piano. We had some of the same issues, but maybe not to the degree you did.

    Who Falls

Very catchy. Nice harmonies. Not sure if everything was recorded very hot, or it's overcompressed. It's just a little in your face for this particular song. Guitar lead is catchy too. I like it. :thumbs up:

    MP3 forum Best of.

Not sure if some of you “oldies” remember, but this was done before. And I even have a copy. ? Haven’t listened to it in awhile, but it was called HomeRecording.Comp and it has a date of 5-1-2003. Looks to have been a 4 disc set. I only do covers, so I never made it. ☹️ Oh, and the one I...

I replaced the second version with one that's a little lower in volume as suggested by keith.rogers. This is a song that should be a little more organic, so hopefully this is in the right direction. Again thanks to all for the feedback.

Thanks for listening and for the input. I was actually thinking the same thing myself. I assume you’re talking about the latest mix, as I didn’t quite feel the same way about the first one. And strangely I didn’t change any of the mastering settings - just mostly different eqs on instruments...

    The Weight

Here's an updated version incorporating some of the suggestions received. The difference I think is relatively subtle, but hopefully for the better. Mostly I tried to boost the bottom - primarily guitar and bass. And cut the highs, guitar, tam, and high hat. I think it balances better this...

Thanks TAE. I’m not a fan of most software reverbs - they all tend to have an oil drum sound to me. As a result I tend to go easy on that knob. Maybe sometimes a little too easy. I’ll try boosting it a tad as you suggest and see what results.

A lot to process there. ? But very much appreciate the ideas. I will try some of them next time I’m on my DAW. Funny your comment about slowing the song down, as I already did. I already tried a slower speed than this, but my recollection is it worked on the verses but dragged during the...

    Hunger Strike cover

Not familiar with the song, but generally a pretty good production. Guitars sound very good. There might be a tad too much reverb on the vox for my taste (but my taste tends toward dry vocals.) Bass is a little lacking on the ear buds I’m listening on. All in all though nice job. Is this a...

Yes, velocities are captured. As noted, I edit things like panning, relative volumes (i.e., loudness of cymbals vs snare vs kick), but I rarely touch the velocities unless there is an egregious error (one hit way too soft for ex). i guess he just plays pretty evenly. ??‍♂️ Appreciate the input.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears

Just one man’s opinion. Take it for what it’s worth. As for the ratio of views to comments, that’s pretty standard. Look at everyone else’s posts and you’ll see the same thing. I’ll frequently open a thread and see it’s a genre I dislike (e.g. hip hop) and for which I can’t offer any...

    The Weight

Thanks for the feedback. Drums were actually played, not programmed. We used Roland e-drums, but they were recorded via midi and we used Session Drummer software for the sounds. Not sure if telling our drummer he sounds like a drum machine would be good or bad. ? We record it that way as...

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears

Musicianship is excellent. Song kicks ass. Recording... not so much. This sounds to me like a mic was stuck on the floor in the middle of the band and just recorded everything. There;'s no width. The mix is muddy. I hope I'm not too negative. This has a lot of potential. It's just not...

    Baba O'Riley Cover

Generally quite nice. Vocal effects don't match the mix, but you explained why that is. Vocal is also a bit pitchy in spots. Guitars sound good. Well done.
