Choosing the right OS and DAW for me

I'm not sure where I'm losing you folks. Updates are bad, m'kay? :ROFLMAO: Seriously, though. For anyone who is relying on their setup it's not a good idea to jump in on new OS updates straight away, no matter what that OS is. Security patches and AV updates are a different matter, for online...

You took a wrong turn! I did the same thing. He was confused as all hell but on the second attempt I got to the right place and got the code needed. I'm afraid I can't remember the specifics of the menu options but If you end up talking to a human, you went off road.

You can still activate XP over the phone. :ROFLMAO:

Choosing the right OS and DAW for me

I was repying to msbmike's idea that OS updates often break applications. I mean, with respect, that sounds like a thing someone heard someone say but, assuming it to be true, I'd suggest that you can either have stability or be up to date. Any attempt to have both usually leads to heartache.

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

    Pretty sure I covered that.

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Well, I covered part of that by mentioning that there's preference and stylistic/creative decisions when recording. These guys choose the gear to be high quality but they're also choosing desirable impacts on the sound. They'll use X preamp for drums, or Y preamp for vocals. That isn't a factor...

Choosing the right OS and DAW for me

The problem's usually between the keyboard and the chair with those nuggets of wisdom. You'll find similar for linux and windows. "Why did you update?" Usually kills the conversation. Everybody wants to be a beta tester for some reason, regardless of OS.

Does anyone slice up their vocal tracks and level match each syllable or note?

I've certainly chopped and adjusted amplitude for passages that seemed a little quiet, or loud, or in some cases one particular word or syllable that gets lots, or jumps out, but I wouldn't be going through a whole track to do it word by word. Saying that, though, there are plugins which come...

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

I don't see why. I've always viewed recording as an attempt to capture something as faithfully as possible. Of course I understand different microphones and preamps and processors are used to taste, and recordings are intentionally altered in many ways during the recording, mixing, and mastering...

    Fan-less PC solutions.

Nvidia 7 series is a pretty low bar, 10 years old IIRC, but even at that those are the recommended specs. The minimum is listed as "Graphics card with native Windows 10 support". I'd take from that that, as with most DAWs, it's going to run just fine on a CPU's integrated graphics. If a daw...

Your virtual instruments are in a different count, Rob. PT seem to break it up as X audio tracks and Y midi/instrument tracks. If your piano is acoustic recording I guess you'd have used up two tracks and then bounced them back to one in the old days. Limitations breed creativity. ;) Have to...

Choosing the right OS and DAW for me

I agree with Rob. With regard to recording software your best bet is to try as many free versions or demos as you can. They all, mostly, do the same job but different people will have different preferences and 'get' different suites. Reaper is always the go to recommendation because it's very...

    The Decline of Nowhereradio

It's good to hear from you. Glad to hear you're doing well. I am too, thanks. Sorry to hear you're not recording although if you're doing things you enjoy more then that's good! No doubt you'll keep us posted if you decide to have a crack at Bowie's last offerings or anything like that. ;) I'm...

    Mystery chirp sounds

I'm not hearing any super loud chirp in that clip. Could it be something about the software you're using to playback? Do you hear it if you play your embedded clip in your browser?

    Time for another one?

Some of those old FGs were very nice! I picked up an fg180, '72 I think, that had bad top surface damage and badly needed a neck reset. It was so cheap I was happy to use it as a sacrificial instrument for teaching myself how to reset a neck, but the work went well and it's been my main...

    Mystery chirp sounds

Hi, Any chance the instrument you're using is a demo? I've heard of demo versions imprint annoying sounds, like a watermark in an image, although they usually do it in the editor too. Just a thought.

Help identifying a strange capacitor, Korg Stage Echo SE-500

I agree the plastic cracking isn't an issue but I'd check if that cap is Rifa brand and, if so, replace it. They have a bit of a reputation for exploding.

Ha, That's just what I was typing. PT Intro is good for 8+8 (audio and midi) Artist does 32 and 64 and Studio does 512 audio and doesn't mention midi in the summary. Presumably over a thousand or unlimited.
