    Help about recording

If you are coming out of the Behringer mixer for your microphone, you need to a 1/4" to RCA cable. I put a link to the type of cable you need in the post #26 above. You don't want to be plugging the mixer into the mic or guitar inputs. If you have a guitar, you could use your regular...

Help Recording DI Distorted Guitar Tones

I don't know if a DI box is going to give you much vs just going into the Scarlett instrument input. A DI box's function is simply to convert an unbalanced high impedance signal from your guitar to a low impedance balanced microphone level signal. Higher priced ones may have other functions...

    I Can't Help Myself

Love that song! I've played it a hundred time before and still get into it. Well played.

    Bought a 'damaged' Tele

Nah, Raymond. You've got it all wrong. You don't fix things like that. You pick the bits off, then beat the rest of the body up, sand off some finish in a few other places, and PRESTO! You have a reliced guitar that would have cost you a $500 to $1000 premium over a new one! If you...

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

I remember when Bob Carver was challenged by Stereophile to do an amp that was equal to a Conrad Johnson amp. He ended up tweaking his M1 amp to null out and the Stereophile staff was unable to tell the difference between the high dollar CJ and his $400 M1 in double blind testing at their own...

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

People hear with their eyes, the cost, and their expectation as much as their ears. I'm sure we all do. Someone recently commented here that they played a cassette recording they had into a reel to reel recorder and it sounded "better". To me, that simply doesn't make sense. It's like...

    Syncing tracks

At one time, I thought about trying to use my Zoom H4n to record 4 drum mics, plus my R24 to give total of 12 tracks, but in the end, I decided that the added complexity of trying get all of that set up at the same time was not worth the hassle for the jams I was recording. If I ever get...

    Syncing tracks

From what I have read, it depends entirely on the clock used to lock the sample rate. The particular oscillator used in the Zoom R24 is off about .25 seconds/hour. My Yamaha AW1600 and Tascam 16x08 were essentially identical. I saw no issue syncing the audio between them. Interestingly...

    Syncing tracks

I found that my R-24 clock is slightly off from my video camera, even running both at 48K. It's a known issue with the R24. It's not enough to mess up a video sync of a single song, but the two audio tracks end up with a slight difference. I can stretch the audio in the Reaper if I need to...

The SHOCKING Behringer NEVE 1073 Preamp

I'll make a few predictions: 1 They'll sell a bunch of them based on glowing reviews in magazines and on internet forums. 2 The audio illuminati will decry that it's pure junk and doesn't hold a candle to a real Neve. It doesn't have the proper components made of unobtainium. 3 There...

Lazy River -New master by Gary Brun-

I just gave this one a listen, and as usual with your tunes, it sounds great. It's got great feel, and I enjoyed the way you did the changes between sections. Well done, Mark!

Cant get a stereo mix in my mackie hm4 headphone amp

In that case, you could try using the stereo Sub out and use a 2 mono to 1 stereo cable to connect to the Mackie. Note that the output of the Aux and Sub outs are +4dBu line levels rather than headphone level. As long as the levels are set appropriately, it probably won't make a tremendous...

Cant get a stereo mix in my mackie hm4 headphone amp

The Mackie HM4 looks like several other heaphone amps, including the Behringer HA400 and the Fifine Headphone Amp 4. It's a generic stereo device. According to the owners manual on the 24/14, the aux outputs are mono balanced outputs. You need to use the Phones output which is stereo.

    Mixing With Console vs ITB

If someone will buy me a console with full automation and about 32 channels, I'll gladly push faders and twist knobs. I'll also need a nice big room to put everything. You might also throw in a nice 24 track tape machine and 10 cases of tape! Otherwise, I'll do everything in the box. I...

How do you make a track louder without maxing out your headroom?

The trick with a compressor it determining the parameters that produce the best sound for you. These are the first 3 to be concerned with: Attack is how fast the unit engages. With a plug-in, it's possible for the computer to scan "the future", and look for big peaks before they actually...

    Multie Recordings what software?

For free software, you have Cakewalk by Bandlab or Ardour. Both allow you to do multitrack recording and are free to use. As Papa said, Reaper is available, free to try for 60 days, and costs $60 to register, but it will keep working even after 60 days, it just puts a "nag" screen up...

    New DAW PC build 2025

I don't what era system you were dealing with but I've been running onboard graphics in DAWs for years with no issue. I suspect it was a peculiar instance with your system and software. Stressing the CPU? I just checked a mix with 18 tracks, 25 plugin FXs and the CPU usage was hovering...

Is an Overdub into a Previously Recorded Track Possible? (Teac80-8)

If it was me, I would do it with a bounce. All it takes is one screw up and the whole track is blown. The 80-8 was pretty good, especially with the DBX. You can either bounce and add to a second track, or record a second track and bounce them both to a third, so you can adjust any...

Reamp experiment that turned out well

The DI sounded dull to me. But I like the reamped sound a lot. It sounded much more what I think you would get with an amp, a bit of sparkle, a bit of fullness. Well done.

    Some advice about audio/music production

At this stage in life, trying to make money with music is the furthest thing from my mind. For the past dozen years, I have taken a 700 mile round trip, paid for 2 or 3 nights in a hotel, while hauling guitars, amps, a recorder, mics and camera JUST to attend a jam session with friends and...
