Thanks Cortexx.... yea, I email the guy I got it from, and he said it was there but broke off. Weird, looking into the hole where it was, it's got some plastic tab covering the metel in there, so it looks like it was made that way.
Well, easy enough fix.
I just picked up some rack stuff, which runs off an ART PS 4x4 power strip. The ART power cord only has a 2 prong end on it, and I figured the prev owner had, for some reason, just cut off the ground prong. But, upon closer inspection, it looks like it came that way.
Doesn't seem right, not...
It is fun, and not that big a deal. Just take basic precautions and you'll be fine.
1. Make sure the amp is unplugged, and
2. Drain the high voltage caps
Cap (capacitors) are like batteries that can hold a charge, sometime very high voltage, for a long time. These should be drained before...
If you can find the schematic, that would tell you exactly what goes where. However, the power switch usually is inline with one of the incoming AC lines, not across the hot and cold. If you wire it between the hot and cold AC lines, and turn it on, it will short out the AC feed, and that's it...
hey, that's a great tip pandamonk... i've got a room off the studio that is 10' deep and is isolated with the studio. i could make a door out of rigid panels and get some deep bass trapping.. nice. thanks...
I edited my above post for clarity, and it refers to the mechanical type (pressure absorber) vs the fiber panels accross corners (velocity absorber). In the latter case, you wound not want it to be airtight, as the sound must pass into it to be absorbed.
If it is sealed, when the plywood face vibrates, it forces the air inside the trap to move into and out of the fiberglass panel inside, which dampens the vibrating plywood and soaks up the energy. If it was not airtight, the air would just move in and out the holes, and the plywood would not be...
decibels measure the change in perceived loudness, something like a 1 bel is "twice as loud". So, you have to have a reference point for the scale. So, for the scale with threshold of pain, they (i think the phone co) set the reference point 0 as threshold of hearing, and measured off that...
ooo...
ha.. nice site. i've got a teac 4010S i'm trying to repair now...
there's an ATR-60 within driving distance for $200, but it's a bit large for my studio:

yea, i'm actually starting to lean more towards the tascam 32 myself... i've got a tsr-8 now, and have been happy with that. THe BR20 is reel nice too... mostly i'm trying to find something nearby instead of an ebay thing.
do you know of any site that has good close up picks of the tascam 32...
I'm looking at picking up and Otari MX5050 BII. Seems like there are a bunch of different models and options for the 5050. Is the BII a half track (which is what I'm looking for)? Thanks....
after seaching around, i found that there was a company called marlboro that made amps in the 80's. It looks like they also put their name on the speakers (not sure if they actually made them) in the amps....
I have my TSR-8 sitting up behind my mixer on a the same shelf as my yorkville active monitors. Usually I leave the tape on the reel when not in use, and just loosen it up a bit to get it off the heads. Anyway, I realized the other day that the outer part of the left reel is about 6" from the...
