    vf80 as pc input?

might work - try it personally, you might as well get rid of the vf80 and buy a firewire or usb audio interface if you are using the computer that much. Tube

    acid 4.0

All those adaptors are converting your signal to mono somewhere (probably from the "y-adaptor" into the 1/4">1/8"), and the computer is only picking up one side of it. (Unless you have a pan knob on the mixer set wrong). You need to get a lead that goes straight from the 2 x 1/4" mixer outs to...

    Fostex VF80EX CD-R vs MR-8?

The big difference is that the vf80 has phantom power, which may help you because generally speaking acoustic guitars are recorded with condenser microphones, which require phantom power. This can be overcome though, by buying a microphone preamp. I have not used the mr8, but it appears easy...

    New Fostex User Forum

Hi All I'm letting you know that Fostex have now got a new service for their user-base. A Web Forum, dedicated to Fostex recording and professional equipment. The old "Hostboard" service (some of you may know it), will be closed down sometime soon. I am doing Mod duties over at the new...

    vf-16 backup

If you save as wav, then you can specify which tracks get transferred. Therefore you can save say tracks 1-8 of a song onto the 250mb zip. Transfer that to computer. Go back and save 9-16...etc. etc. Slower, but then you dont have to get a new drive. Or, you could try a SCSI Jaz drive which...

VF-08: external fx loop...will this work?

psongman - you are not quite correct there. You dont have to have the fader up to record sound. You have to have it up to monitor what you are recording however. You set the recording level by using the trim pot, not that fader. jfrog - your method would work.

    MR8 - 2 More things that S U C K about it

Jeez mate....why the hell did you buy the MR8 then? Sounds like you should be doing that research about the 16 track pronto! ;)

Getting a drum loop from cd onto your fostex

You need to save the files in the root folder of the CD, and named exactly like they are named on the David Jones CD. eg: AAAAAA01.WAV, AAAAAA02.WAV The fostex cannot recognise any other filename, or if yuou have used "folders" on your CD. or, you could simply cut and paste them in the...

    Product questions.

Well, the vf160 cant handle 24 simultaneous tracks either. Do you need the CD burner? Do you need the portability? (all in one) I dont think you can bypass the vf160's pre's, unless you go digital in. But the mix wizard would probably give you better sound in any case. Do you need the 24 bit...

    I think My MR8 is F*cked

Sounds to me like your DMP3 is the problem and not the MR8. Re-reading your post, you dont have problems when plugging straight into the MR8? Try and eliminate each piece of the signal chain, including all cables. Tube

    I think My MR8 is F*cked

sounds like a phase issue to me..."fucked up ass hollow fuzz SOUND!" pretty much describes some out of phase stuff. This could come from having the +'ve's on SOME of your connections wired to the -'ve, and certainly in the case of the DMP3, you are using 1/4"-XLR cables. So....go get some good...

    cutting/pasting

billisa pretty much hits the nail on the head. Just hit play and keep playing until you are satisfied. The vf80 will record for ages! All I'd say is, just speak into the mic..."take 1", "take 2" etc at the start of each new take so you know where you are. When you listen back, just note down...
