    "The Travel song"

Good song and harmonies. Is this a solo effort or a band performance? It feels like live this will be an even rockier highlight of a set.

    "Subtle Change" (Piano Pop)

Well sung and recorded, very crisp. Definite 70s solo artist vibes. I would remove the telephone argument in the background up to the 30 second mark. It feels out of place. Backing vox are great, but don't come in until 90 seconds in. Maybe put some little hints a bit earlier. Good song.

Rock Cover: Please, please, please by the Smith’s.

Excellent cover. Well done for doing three new things: rocking it up, adding your own vocal style, and adding a new verse. Most covers end up being half-hearted copies of the much better original. For obvious reasons: the person covering likes the song, and ends up trying to emulate it note...

"high time", acoustic original road tune

Very accomplished guitar rhythms going on here. Jane's Addiction again (never a bad thing), bit of Nuno Bettencourt with the tricky acoustics. Can't hear much bass, and for me the drums need to be harder to solidify it as a song. The bongos gives a style of its own, though, it just always...

Deeper as it goes (general thoughts)

Vocal does sound like it's not knitting with the well produced backing track. More reverb, double tracking, backing vox? A good song here, moody atmosphere, lovely bass tone. Reminiscent of some Grant Hart songs, as well as Jane's Addiction.

    Original tune: The Honeymoon Flops

Cheers, Deylight. Very good suggestions. I'd heard of Brinsley Schwartz but couldn't name one song by them. Thought they were a reggae band! Now I see that it is Nick Lowe and I've always loved his songwriting. Classic stuff, so I will gladly accept that generous comparison. You are spot...

    Original tune: The Honeymoon Flops

Thanks. Yes, not being a strong vocalist I fall back on double tracked and over-dubbed vocals all the time. It's the only way I can get my weak voice strong enough. The main part is probably 5 combined, all singing the whole song so definitely a bit of timing issues here and there. Usually...

    Original tune: The Honeymoon Flops

Revisited this one nine months later and learnt a lot in working with the Boss BR-800, so I'm interested in your thoughts on the update. I've learnt how to punch in and out mistakes. I've learnt how to copy and paste small parts from other sections of virtual tracks to fix glitches. The Boss...

New Song - Any Thoughts Welcome!

Superb song. Got a feel of the great New York bands of the 70s, Television, Jonathan Richman, Blondie, a mellower Talking Heads. They often aped their 50s influences to pay respect. Love the song. And the singing fits it, sounds deliberate, and is great to listen to. I was transported back...

    Original song: "Anti-Vaxxer"

A compilation of the madness we all went through from 2020 onwards. It changed us all.

    Flight of An Angel

A lot to like here. A "Wonderful Tonight" lead motif over a different chord structure, with a spaghetti western vibe. I don't care for the rain effect and think some nice natural drums should come in at 30 sec or 43 sec at the latest to give it some rhythm. Lower the volume of the second...

Vocal and guitar mixing and mastering

Yes the vocal eq seems a little spiky to me. Not harsh, but a bit crisper than it should be. I'd try to aim for something a bit warmer and smoother. The guitar sounds fine. Echoes of Madeleine Peyroux, although male of course. The performance is excellent though.

    Theme For an Unmade Film

While working on something else, I started playing a rhythmic two chord pattern. A sliding to B, staying there with staccato stabs, then repeating. Threw in a cheeky G, then an E and kept it on repeat. I knew I would forget it in 5 minutes so quickly put it down with a drumbeat on the BR-800...

    Ride or Die final mix

I want to say a little bit more about this excellent composition, and why I like it so much. It reminds me of times waiting for the bus for work in the late 90s with The Colour and The Shape and There is Nothing Left To Lose by the Foo Fighters on repeat in my minidisc player. It's got Grohl's...
