You want thump and crushing sound? Invest in a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and a 4x10 cabinet. Screw distortion pedals. It's got enough gain stages to topple most large buildings.
If you have the $, get the mesa. Don't think twice. Old marshalls do have a sweet sound, but the Rectifier is so versatile, and so money, it's ridiculous. Mesa came up with a great amp on this one. If I had the money, i'd have a dual rectifier. BTW, the Mesa cabs help with low end thump...
Try it the Hemingway way!
Drink, get divorced, remarry, drink, write get divorced, drink, write, remarry, write, drink, get divorced, drink, write, loose house and move to Cuba.
Not necessarily in that order
I occassionally have that problem too. Thing is, i want something to come through stronger than the chorus for my second verse, which is usually pretty difficult. SO I tried writing really long first verses, then cutting them in half and inserting a chorus as a divider. Works really wel for...
Songwriting is always a jumbled mess. The best stuff starts out with about a litre of Jack Daniels, some of which ends up on the guitar. I keep a 4-track on the ready in front of my practice amp, and pray i can find the Record button under all the cords/Chords. Now that all the preparation is...
Paul Simon, in "Homeward Bound".
"and all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity..." I think it's beautiful in its simplicity and truth, because nothing sounds as futile to you as your own lyrics, no matter what people say about them.
Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine. He paints with sound. Creates the most gorgeous soundscapes and textures. The guys from Radiohead do a good job as well. And correct me if i'm wrong but Ride also has a fantastic guitar sound. Andy Bell is his name, if I'm not mistaken...
Heh heh... I like you guys... You funny...
Please Dragon, can they stay? They won't eat much and they'll bring their own booze... i Hope.... you will bring your own liquor..right? I promise I'll feed 'em right when i get home from school... :)
Heh... Well the responses were interesting, at least... There are actually 3 songs up on the timebomb page by this band from their new album. (Sunny Day Real Estate, if anybody liked em)
It's cool to see other people who like bands like that around here. I do kinda wish you would have been...
Ummmm.... I know what this is. Did you record this ammeth? I have heard the whole album and I think it sounds great. Just, please say you are either the engineer or with the band, cause otherwise I think somebody's gonna be pissed. I'm not accusing you of anything, just never expected to see...
I can't let this pass without mentioning my first guitar, made by Blade. It was the POS model (piece of Sh*t). It had every possible problem (Bad pickups, neck, truss rod, tuning pegs, knobs, ect) The thing would refuse to go out of tune one day no matter what i did to it, then refuse to find...
And the reply (drumrollplease)
No it won't burn my Tubes any faster (whew, i'm too poor to retube once a month, plus have it re-biased) And as for hurting the speakers, it depends on how loud I play it. They're good ol'celestions though, and It's louder than a train at about 12o'clock anyway...
I've got a Marshall JCM 900 2x12 Combo, and to improve my distortion sound, have cranked the volume or post gain to the max, and am using the pre-gain as a volume control. (BTW try this, it sound so good) The question is, how much faster will I burn out the EL34's by using the power stage to...
Can't beat a tube amp for sound quality..
But if ya gotta stomp, try a Boss Feedbacker/Distortion, a handy little pedal that lays down layers of distortion real well. But give serious thought to a tube amp, they sound so much more real...
