Too funny. I would describe my outboard exactly the same way. KT Square-1 Compressors. DBX 903s and 263s, Lexicon LXP-15s, Old TC Electronics effects and delays. I guess if you want a Tascam M3500/M3700 console you think about mixing in a certain way. I love scooping up undervalued older gear...
I'm so jealous! A series of moves meant I just couldn't hold onto M3500, or the M3700. Loved them. I never had any problems. But, I just couldn't find a place a store them for what turned out to be 7 years... I finally have a spot go setup my equipment permanently and I miss having them. And...
Mixers with decent EQs?
#1 - I'd take a look around for the Speck Electronics 16 channel EQ units, the EQ16 or the SSM 16. I picked one up an EQ16 a few years ago for $300 and I've been happy with it. You can wire it to have two channels of EQ on 8 inputs, or the fully 16 channels on 16 inputs...
The lack of inserts would be be an issue for me.
If you're tracking via external preamps, you could go from Preamp to compressor and then into the line input on the board, allowing you to use the board's A/D interface.. That's not a problem.
But, if you are hoping to use the PC as a...
I'd bet the CS8 unit requires a PC, like the Mackie unit. Cool tech, that I have come very close to buying more than once...
That MIDI only unit looks cool. Capture, and then playback those MIDI files in the same session... perfection.
Could the display portion just not be connected properly? I'd open it back up and just have a good, slow, look 'round to see if something was crimped, cut, or wiggled loose.
Aaah. Makes sense!
That fidelity of the recording didn't sound like an analog mix to me, so your process makes a lot of sense. Use each tool for what it does best.
Thanks!
Yes please!
I too have a TSR-8, which I love.
I'd love to hear how you tracked and mixed the project.
Was the TSR-8 a 'pass through' on the way to the DAW? Or, did you complete the project all on the analog side and them capture the final mix digitally?
