    You're not the Sheriff

I really didn't notice the varied rhyming scheme. That said, I find that it didn't detract anything from the song. Varying the rhyming scheme might actually work though; if she had set up a certain expected rhyming scheme and then pulled a fast one on us by changing it it could add some...

So which instrument do you record first?

It's interesting... I figured most people recorded from the ground up, doing drums and bass, rhythm then lead. But maybe doing it backwards is an interesting way of going about it, something like: In a group setting, the singer is alone in his/her own world really not listening to the other...

So which instrument do you record first?

I'm sure a lot of us are mutli-instrumentalists or at least like to think we are :p So my question to all of you is which instrument do you track first? Do you do a a sort of a scratch track, record/program a drum track and then record the "real" parts playing along with the drums? Or how...

How do you like this funky bass tone?

In a funky setting sure, I'd love it! But context is everything I guess. It would certainly sound weird in an orchestral symphony wouldn't it!

    Manslick gets Mellow

I think the shaker in the background is too subtle and doesn't really have it's own identity. If you hadn't had told it was a shaker, I would've thought that it was noise or something. Either way, I agree with everyone on the clave... Maybe have the clave or shaker going depending on the...

Defective (I ripped off Heatmiser's title!!!)

This one's nice! I really like the guitar riffage. It may be straight up rock n' roll but there's always a twist or two in your tunes that keep it fresh and exciting. Keep it coming! I quite enjoy your stuff :)

MY New song. Not sure about the mix

I second that the kick is too loud. Perhaps the vocals are a little too loud as well. I also think they're a little dry compared to the rest of the instruments.. maybe throw in a bit more reverb on them to make it blend more. Good song :)

Remix #1 - We Are Not The Same by The Jongleurs

This is really cool. The vocals have a Crosby Stills & Nash [& Young] kind of sound to them; at least to me, anyway. But I agree with CrowsofFritz. The snare sounds a little weak compared to the rest of the awesome sounding instruments. I find it a bit too resonant and it doesn't sound meaty...

    let 'em sink

Sounds really great heat. The drums have a Zeppy "When the Levee Breaks" kind of thing going on, and it compliments the song well; it grooves nicely too. I've got no complaints here :D

Comfortable with what i have :)

It's been a while since I've seen a good argument on these forums. Only heated arguments like this can get up to 13 pages in two days... :eatpopcorn: :eatpopcorn:

    CDs?

I say that until high quality audio file formats become the norm and are freely available, I will keep buying CDs. We might not get a new compact lossless audio file format that takes up less MB, but I think it won't even be necessary; hard drive space is getting bigger and bigger by the...

Looking for help planning out setup.

There are a bunch of room mode calculators on the interwebz. Just input the dimensions of your room into one of them. Find the most troublesome modal frequencies and their wavelengths, divide by 4 to get the 1/4 wavelengths [assuming the calculator doesn't give it to you], and get some...

Looking for help planning out setup.

It's too bad that your room is a square, but I guess we have to work with what we got! I'd say don't stick your monitors right up against the wall if possible; if you do it will unnecessarily boost the low end which could mess up your mixes. If you want to get into the nitty gritty, you can...

    First Post and first recording

FYI I think there's a thread in the Newbies subforum that was created for the sole purpose of getting your ten posts. If your antsy to post some tunes you may want to check it out! :thumbs up:

    Ex-Something, new tune

My two cents is that it's not a timing issue, but rather an instrumentation and arrangement issue. You've got a nice voice, but I find that the rawness [in a good way of course] of your voice is sort of undermined by the chorusy electric guitar. I think it would suit it better if it was an...
