    Track splitting software?

I heard that Pro Tools has one function that can take any commercial tape or CD and split the song into its original tracks(instruments), even after the final mixdown. Too bad I don't have a Mac. Is there any program for the PC/Windows that can do this? I really hope to be able to do it. Thanks!

Want to make a 'Live' album

Well, not really Live, but I want to make a studio recording to sound like it's a live concert. Hope I'm not infringing any copyright, I already have 'hired' some fans from a (won't say which) soccer pc game, and use the spectator sounds for my album. Any tips and suggestions? How should I pan...

    Recording guitar to PC

I used to own a Zoom 707 before I got the POD. The Zoom is good for clean sounds and a bit of distortion, but anything more than that and you'll have to get the POD, or some other good multifx preamp like the Digitech RP2000 or Korg AX1000G. Make sure that you are getting a stereo input into...

    Yet another bass recording question

I have been thinking about it. Since I'm using Cakewalk, it's possible to record 2 reverse stereo tracks for the bass at the same time, for a total for 4 tracks for bass. So for one stereo track, speaker out goes to right and line out goes left, and vice versa for the other stereo track. That...

    Intonation problems

Thanks for all the help guys, I think I finally figured out what's wrong, it's the nut that is too low and causing some buzzing on the upper frets. Problem is there's not too many guitar techies in my area and after I checked out the prices (US$150 for refretting, $50 for a basic tune up) maybe...

    Yet another bass recording question

Has anyone tried recording a bass with 2 direct outputs - line out and speaker out? So instead of recording bass with line out + mic, which I think is the best way but can't afford to mic up in my small room, is this a good substitute for sound? I plan to run the line out straight into the left...

Getting Good Tight Bass guitar sounds?

oops...sorry for the wrong equation. Change "Link - DI + mic" to "Rev E = DI + mic"

Getting Good Tight Bass guitar sounds?

I agree with Link - DI + mic is the way to go! For bass. But first get a good live sound with the amp, so you can be sure it's the micing that's the problem. Active bass pickups help a lot, or you can also get a outboard preamp like the Sadowsky. You can also use the mid-notch or contour feature...

    Looking for good humbuckers

Hi Foo, thanks for the reply. Well this Strat has a single large cavity in the body for all the pickups so no carving needed. Anyway, I got it used and the previous owner already took out the stock singles and put in 2 normal sized (not stacked) humbuckers with a new pickguard to fit. The...

do I need a direct box?

Hi mojoshmoe, the preamp out is absolutely safe to plug in the line in - it is about the same as a line out. You don't have to use a DI box in this case, but a cheap one will do for reducing some noise. If you have a speaker out jack then you'll need a DI box that can convert speaker signals to...

    Looking for good humbuckers

I recently got a used Strat which I am thinking of putting in 2 humbuckers to replace the lousy stock. What's a good humbucker for getting the Santana-Gibson SG sound, like on Europa? I'm looking at the Dimarzio Air Classic, does anyone have recommendations?

    Intonation problems

Thanks Jason for the shimming idea. I used a small piece of paper and it helped so the action is okay now. But still can't solve the truss rod problem, either there's a lot of buzzing on the first few frets, or intonation is way flat on 12th fret, or both. Could it be because the nut is too low...

    BBE sonic maximizer

I'm using a SBlive Value. What do you think of it? I know it's no match to one of those Ginas, might buy one in the future when it's in my budget. Bad thing about these "game" soundcards is there's only one 1/8" line, makes it more difficult to record stereo. Any suggestions on how to get the...

    Intonation problems

I am trying to restore an old Ibanez guitar that has a vintage Strat style bridge. Firstly, the action is way too high to be playable, even with the saddles at the lowest position. Also the intonation is always too flat even when I bring the saddles forward. I suspect the neck has problems...

    BBE sonic maximizer

Oh..I am using a RCA<->1/4" stereo cable into one Y adaptor to plug into the soundcard's line in. Sometimes I also plug only the Red side of 2 RCA cables into the Y adaptor if recording from a multi-fx which has 2 output jacks for stereo. (all unshielded cables) Now you reminded me, I think...
