    Angled walls vs Square room

I am with John on this, Designing rooms in the manner you describe do not reduce room modes in the least - they do (however) make it extraordinarily difficult to calculate the modes you are going to end up with (and the claim that you can just average the room dimensions and use those...

    Cellar Conversion Need some advice.

Freya, Regardless of what you put in the cavity - high humidity levels are a concern. Mold will form with humidity levels reaching into the upper 40% range....... and mold is a serious health concern - even more so in rooms that are designed with sound proofing in mind. You really want to...

    Insulation Board

Freya, I have a comment - however it is not opinion - it is fact. The only value that material has is for insulation. It is useless for either isolation or room treatments.......... Rod Gervais Director of Education GIK Acoustics GIK Acoustics. Acoustic Panels and Bass Traps. (USA) GIK...

    and on the ceiling???

Lou, I just started with them on Monday of this week, and am looking forward to a great future with Glenn. Thanks for asking, Rod Gervais GIK Acoustics Director of Education GIK Acoustics. Acoustic Panels and Bass Traps. (USA) GIK Europe, Bass Traps, Acoustic Panels (Europe)...

    Need advice on studio dimensions

OK, If you really do not care about isolation - then things get easier (acoustically) As was explained - the greater the isolating barrier you install the more difficult it becomes to treat the space...... especially in the lower frequency range (high frequencies are relatively easy to deal...

    and on the ceiling???

No advantage whatsoever...... no detriment either - It is (in the end) the same as if you just painted the ceiling (acoustically). That having been said, you need to think hard about how you are going to finish your space. Is this just a practice space - a single room combination...

will eggcrates on the ceiling help the ride cymbal sound?

No - not with egg crates...... lol Do a search in here for "ceiling cloud" - you'll find details as well as explanations - the stop reflections from the hard surface of a ceiling from making it back do into the area below the cloud

will eggcrates on the ceiling help the ride cymbal sound?

What I am not hearing here is a lot of room issues......... with the exception (perhaps) of the cymbal crashes........... I would try making a cloud over the drum kit - and would probably stuff a pillow into the bass drum - way to much going on there - My kit has a damped kick head - and I use...

will eggcrates on the ceiling help the ride cymbal sound?

Good points on the napkin thing - If your drummer needs to tone it down - them have him play softer - great exercise in dynamics......... If he's doing it to try to kill drums that are ringing - then have him get some moon gels........

will eggcrates on the ceiling help the ride cymbal sound?

The "sound blankets" aren't offering much in the way of isolation for your neighbors........ it takes mass to make that happen....... they will (however) help to make your room sound more dead...... The odds are that you have a hard ceiling in a home - (painted drywall - or even a sprayed...

    cheap 3lb fiber board

The Johns Manville products are comparable to the OC products - pretty much any rigid fiberglass board in that density is the same as any other....... Always go for the least expensive alternative in your area - there is no reason whatsoever to spend a penny more for one manufacturers product...

    Resilient Channel quick question

Artist, I don't have any details of the space - so cannot comment on whether what you are doing makes sense or not - and thus will just comment on the direct question asked. When using resilient channel it is critical that the channel never touches anything - AND that the drywall mounted to it...

    Rigid Fiberglass containment options

If you can breathe easily through a fabric it is fine for early reflections........... if it is a low frequency treatment and you are not concerned with high frequency absorption then any fabric will do fine.
