Hey Gorty ! As it turns out, I was doing the wrong thing with my vocals and defeating my original cause. I haven't really been able to mess with it in a serious way (stuck in a hotel room) but I have applied what Greg said to the vocals and immediately could hear a majoe difference in my phones...
