    Tascam MS16 problem

Hey cory, I wanted to ask you something... My new MS-16 runs signal pretty well at 1khz pretty well, but when I get up 10khz and 16khz it starts doing the fluctuation thing. Do you have any ideas on this problem? Should I replace the relays in my new one too?

3M 250 and Ampex 456 1" Tape Bias and Levels

Thank you. That was the exact answer I was looking for. I just purchased 2 more 3M 250 reels and one of them appears to be shedding. They're guaranteed not sticky, so I can get my money back or exchange it for another, but that still really sucks. It sheds in the upper corner of a tape guide and...

3M 250 and Ampex 456 1" Tape Bias and Levels

The Tape is great. it doesn't shed t all. I was weary at first, but they are wonderful. I read a sticky shed list a while back and I didn't see 250 on there. I did see 226 though. Does anyone know the difference between 250 and 226?

3M 250 and Ampex 456 1" Tape Bias and Levels

I just purchased some 1" 3M/Scotch 250 Tape. I've been using Ampex/Quantegy 456 and my machine(Tascam MS-16) is calibrated/biased to this at +6db. I know 456 is +6db. I've read 250 is too. But when I recorded a 1kHz tone for setting the record level, it was reading -3VU on the 250 but 0VU on the...

Why do you record in analogue?

A little while back, my friend was having a lot of trouble getting his Recordings to sound good. He was working in Cubase. Anyways, I thought I would share my knowledge in the analog domain to help him out a bit. I could not get a good sound for the life of me! Applying what I do on Tape and a...

Why do you record in analogue?

I feel the exact same way. Analog is about the process of Recording, not the sound it gives so much. We see all of this Analog-emulation plugins which are supposed to make the music "warmer", but the warmth is in the performance and the working with music hands-on in "real life". It's like...

    Really noisy Aux Sends

The 4 Aux Sends on my M-520 are super noisy, especially Aux 3/4. I mean REALLY noisy, I don't think it is normal noisiness. It has a ton of hiss. No popping or crackles. I have cleaned the Faders before with Deoxit G5. Could the problem be from bad Capacitors?

8 Ch. RCA Snakes? What Brand?

Well... I went with the PylePro 8 Channel 10' Snakes. That was before I saw a lot of these comments leaning toward Hosa. To be honest, I haven't had a "great" experience with Hosa. Then again, those were 1/4" TS Cables, don't know if that makes any difference. Thanks for the input guys. I may...

8 or 16 Track Tape Machine

WOW Cory! You completely blew me out of the water! Makes sense. I've seen that M-500, it's a very strange mixer. Definitely looks like a prototype. Great info. I apologize for challenging you

High Frequency problem on Track 13

I just got my MS-16 back from the Tascam Repair Facility and everything is working fantastic:cool:, except for Track 13 at 16kHz:(. It responds correctly at 1Khz and 10kHz(Most of the time), but when it gets to 16Khz, it drops down to about -5VU and then starts to fluctuate around, sometimes...

    Storing and Labeling Master Tapes

Do you know of the reason to store the vertically? Would it actually cause damage to store them horizontally? Yeah, I've been storing them Tails out for a while now. It really eliminates the print-through pre-echo modulation effects.

8 or 16 Track Tape Machine

The 300 Series came out AFTER the 500 Series? No way. Look at the features, build quality, Tascam logo, and the Knobs they use. The 500 Series is very similar to the M-600 Console which was mid-late 80's. I thought the 300 series mixers went with the 32, 34, and 38 Recorders(Early 80's) And the...

    tascam 80-8 & tascam m35

You're right. It doesn't really "enhance" the sound, but shorter RCA's do keep the signal from being tainted with noises, Freq's, etc... Right? That's what I've always heard. Tascam talks about it quite a bit in their manuals.

8 or 16 Track Tape Machine

I'd say a Tascam 8-Track Recorder with a Tascam 12 Channel Mixer would be a great start. I've always been impressed with the reliability and sound quality of Tascams. If you are dumping into Pro-Tools or something, you don't need to worry too much about Track count. I'd say for a Tape Machine...
