I've come across an unused 32. I have not bought it yet. Though unused it has two issues I can see. One, the minor issue, is the headphone out is very noisy. I presume this is fixable. The second issue involves "wobble" on the take-up side. It's as though the table(?) that the reel mounts...
Falken, thanks for the reply. The pre is the one in my Tascam m35 so I don't know if zero is in fact "no gain". You bring up a good question there.
The mic is an EV RE-20. No EQ. Fader on the low side of "unity" (a little higher than 3/4 up).
Next time I'm gonna try by-passing the pre.
I was recording a friend's guitar playing. Not much experience with the big electric 100 watt w/4x12 (Mesa Boogie). Anyway, it was loud. As such it was the first time I've never needed gain at the input of the channel strip. On the way home I wondered why in rock-n-roll world they make such...
Another thang,
I've read all the other threads here on the M35 and there has been a lot of wonderful posts by Reel and Ghost on this mixer.
One thing not touched on is how to get the signal routing so the pans on the channel strips function. As it is now I can only pan via the sub-master modules.
I use a Revox B77.
Before I got it I was warned that the tape hiss would immediately drive me back to digital.
Wrong.
Not an issue for me.
In order to hear any hiss at all the music must be a very quiet, delicate passage that fades to silence. Even then it's necessary to move closer to the...
The weakest aspect is that it's a little dark sounding though surprisingly not so much in the vocals. Mostly it's in the guitars and probably the bass which is so undifferentiated from anything else that it's basically missing.
Less guitar tracks with a lot more highend EQ on them. More...
One more dumb question for tonite: I just noticed that the flange holes on some of my reels are in alignment and some aren't. In other words, on the ones that are aligned I can see thru the reel. On the others I can't.
Does that matter?
FWIW, it seems like I can better eyeball the tape...
Well I think I mmay suffer from some kind of depression so that' probably the source of that language.
Thanks for the replies.
I was gonna try bending it by hand the first time around but was beginning to think it might be an exercise in futility; wasn't sure if common knowledge was to just...
Is it a good idea to attempt to straighten out a 10 1/2" metal reel? I have one that's branded "Tacam" which in two different places is squashed just enough to cause some tape grab as she rotates. I have it mounted on the take-up side. It's annoying as hell as it makes that scraping noise...
I've seen his listings before. I think he's into some pretty tricked out Revox & Studer accessories. I was gonna get some adapters from him but could never clarify if his item included everything pictured or just the aluminum.
I stil want some like those...
I know where you're coming from but I feel the opposite based on my experience.
Add up the price of the computer, software, external hardware like AD/DA, and misc. stuff and it's waayyy in the thousands. And that's a nominal rig.
Personally I never got headaches much 'til I started chasing...
