Studio Monitors and a crappy amplifier

Wow you dug up an 8 year old post! I'd contact Technics or a repair shop for info on that fan. I stopped using my Technics receiver years ago... now you got me reminiscing... those were the good ole' days...

clover? http://www.cloversystems.com/ not sure if they offer stand-alone software though

    Output levels??

I, too, have heard that you should leave the master fader at 0dB. Although I can't remember getting a clear explanation to why. I can see how it would cause additional, unnecessary calculations (or maybe just 1 calculation?), and therefore errors. But I'm sure with today's high resolution mix...

    Fake Mastering

When I work on demos and want to get them loud (without 'real' mastering) I usually just slap a Waves L2 or L3 on and crank up the level. In terms of EQ... try putting one on the master buss... set up about +6 db on a parametric EQ and sweep across the entire freq. range. Some freqs will sound...

    Digital cliping?

If you can't hear it (assuming that you trust your monitoring) I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if you like the performance and tone. Don't be afraid of a little red (some mastering engineers aren't afraid of even alot of red) I'd double-check it in both speakers and headphones to make...

    Listen to this please

From the way you set up the post I was expecting the worst! But this actually doesn't sound bad at all (listening on Sony 7506 headphones). I agree that the vocal is kinda buried though. I would try to bring it up a couple dB.

Need help with irregular room layout/design

Yes, I'm aware of the importance of ventilation and fresh air. I got some info about that on another thread (squirrel fans and s-ducts -- thanks again knightfly) Any suggestions in terms of layout?

Need help with irregular room layout/design

This is what I was thinking. I fill in the north, east, and west windows, then put up a new wall. I was thinking that in terms of construction putting up a single wall with a double door would save me having to deal with the 3 existing doors individually (the bathroom door, the door into the...

Need help with irregular room layout/design

Sorry, I thought that "brick/concrete" might be a bit ambiguous. I meant that the 'inside' of the wall is brick (solid brick I think), then the brick is covered with a layer of concrete which makes up the 'outer' part of the wall (the part we can see and touch.) I'm not what the exact term is...

Need help with irregular room layout/design

I've got a spare room in my house that I'd like to turn into a studio/work room. I'm planning on a single room design (control room and tracking in same room.) I'll mainly be recording vocals, acoustic guitars, and some percussion. I'll also be mixing in here so I'd like the room to be...

    STC Rating??

Thanks knightfly, I've been having a lot of trouble finding what STC actually signifies. Your explaination clears things up a bit.

    STC Rating??

is that right? so STC is actually measured in dB ? can someone confirm this?

Thanks everyone. knightfly: would the type of S duct vent mentioned in the vocal booth thread work? mixsit: OSA?
