This may be a little rich for your blood, but check out the Lexicon MPX G2. The interface has some quirks to it but it has the high quality Lexicon sound. Around $1200 (ouch), but this will be the last effects unit you'll ever own, unless it gets thrown in the washing machine...

The converters are good, but the pres suck. Get a preamp and turn your gains down on the Roland. Your sound quality will improve. For what its worth, I got a Focusrite Trakmaster and kept it away from the Roland with a 3' Monster cable. Clean as a whistle. It has phantom power and easy to use...
