    US122 questions

You're right about the US-122 RCA jacks--they are for output only. The Radio Shack adaptor goes into the US-122 insert jack. You'd then need RCA --> 1/4" cables to go into and from your effects. Alternatively, check your local Guitar Superstore for a TRS Y-cable (above caveats apply). I had...

    US122 questions

To use the inserts you'll need a special cable (or an adaptor). The cable has a stereo plug that goes into the insert jack and two mono plugs at the other end. The tip of the stereo plug is the "send" and its side of the mono cable would go into the effect input. The ring of the stereo plug...

how much upgrading is possible on a lap top?

At least in my case, the processor is the bottleneck. Use Windows Task Manager while you're tracking and you can see how both your processor and RAM are being used. --Michael

    US122 questions

Yes, the RCA jacks are the analog outputs. You could check Radio Shack for RCA-->1/4" adaptors or, if you have a boom box with a line in, run the RCA outs from the US-122 to your boom box. It won't sound great, but it will probably sound better than your laptop speakers. The inserts can be...

how much upgrading is possible on a lap top?

Have you tried recording with it? If so, how'd it turn out? There are a lot of variables here: - Interface (Firewire vs. USB) - Sequencing software - Plug-ins - Number of tracks - Number of simultaneous inputs - etc..... I'm using Adobe Audition on a Dell Latitude D800 (Win XP, 1.3 GHz...

    Help with Tascam US-122

The direct monitor output is connected directly to the input. This bypasses the signal running into the computer and the latency associated with that process. Any tracks you've previously recorded will play through the output and you shouldn't have any problem. I use this method all the time...

    Success with US-122!

Andy-- I've got the US-122 latency (in the control panel) set to 512 samples and the Audition multitrack latency set at 18 ms. How are your settings?

Notebook recording sounds like a tape!

Unplug computer? Have you tried running the computer off the battery while recording? My setup is very similar: - Dell Latitude D800 (1.3 GHz Celeron, 512 MB, 30 GB 4200 rpm internal hdd) - Win XP - Tascam US-122 I keep the computer unplugged while recording and then plug it in during...

Digital multi track recording with a laptop

Tascam US-122 If you only need two inputs, try the Tascam US-122. Best bang for the buck of the USB interfaces (IMO). I'm using mine with Adobe Audition (same thing as CEP 2.1) on a Dell Latitude D800 notebook and am very pleased. http://tascam.com/product_info.php?pid=253

    Echo Indigo IO

My limited (30 minutes) experience with a software synth and the US-122 was not good--latency was very poor. How do other USB devices fare with software synths? I've not tried it with a hardware-based sound module but I expect the results would be better. To make a correction, the US-122 DOES...

    Echo Indigo IO

Try Tascam US-122 I've had good results with the Tascam US-122 USB (1.1) interface. It's not as small as the Indigo, but it has two audio inputs (w/ phantom power) as well as MIDI. If you had the Indigo, you'd need a mixer anyway; the US-122 handles two channels quite well. It also functions...

    Success with US-122!

This past weekend I recorded my first tune with my US-122. The results have been posted in the MP3 Mixing Clinic: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=114889 I used Adobe Audition 1.0 (formerly CEP) on a Dell Latitude D800 notebook (WinXP, 1.3 GHz Centrino, 512 MB RAM, 30 GB...

FOLK-ROCK: How can this mix be improved?

Thanks for the thoughts so far. The vocal is low on purpose: frankly, it's not that good so I'm hiding it with reverb and keeping the volume down. A better singer would would warrant a better place in the mix ;) I'll take a look at the electric part at 1 min. again. As for the low end, I've...
