My "kinda" first stab at electronic music

Not my first romp through the park, but definitely my first stab at "modern" electro dance music. Yay? Nay? The Demure "Just Dance to the Beat" by Lee Rosario Jr. (Mixer) on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Thomas Wynn and the Believer"s "Black November"

This is a mix I did a while back, but it sort of sat on the shelf for a while. How do you guys feel about it? Thomas Wynn and the Believers

    analog mixer thoughts

Mulevaline, Ethan touched on the subject directly. In this situation, there are other technical aspects that can help make a mix "jump" out more that if you really got deep into, would cost a bit of money. I would save the money for a good preamp and I personally would work with what you have...

The Journey of the Engineer. I want to hear YOUR story.

btw, Guitargod, really great looking pictures man. Congradulations on that experience. Perhaps you'd care to elaborate from your time there? I'd love to hear more man. Anything that might inspire another great future engineer that may be reading :0

The Journey of the Engineer. I want to hear YOUR story.

I gotta say... It's been a long time since I've been in hear and it's pretty bizarre how things evolve over the course of just a few short years. As a fan of the music production process and an ever so avid seeker of "perfect sonics" in a mix, its amazing how the vibe in this place has helped...

    Micing a full kit

well i'm not saying you need 100 grand worth of mics to do this :D This is stuff that could be done on an 002 rack for a very moderate budget. i only wanted to speak from one end just to voice an opinion. In terms of rooms, you'd be surprised how well most living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms...

What's your reference CD/Song when you mix?

agreeing with massive. However, i'm not gonna lie, i'm a total FX whore when I'm allowed to be. Not that I don't agree with uber natural mixes :D I think of a reference mix as a reset of the ears....tones, general eq and stuff like that. Just a frame of reference, but nothing to copy verbatim...

    Micing a full kit

https://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/mixing-techniques/rock-drums-according-crazy-grammy-producer-just-passing-word-along-316382/ If you're trying to get heavy sounds like on a major record release, chances are you'll need to capture more of the kit if you can. More ambiance...

What to mix and what not to mix?

Speaking for myself, I would usually have someone prep the files as unaltered as possible. Reason being, the engineer might have a better means of doing what you want. So unless you have fx that are super specific to your project, it's better to leave the rest to the engineer.

What do you think about recording "live vocals" on a professional recording?

I'll put it this way, serious artists spend big money to get the right team players because of the need to get it right the first time. The same goes with hiring producers. So I don't believe the idea is to take away from who a singer is. You bring in a singer to a session because you want them...

Do plugins "work better" when the average digital level is higher?

I meant bit rate. Sorry for the terminology screw up there. That answered my question :)

    Changing Headphones Helps

There's actually a fairly simple explanation for this. Naturally the tenancy is to assume that we are perfectly symmetrical, however this is incorrect. As you may know, our eyes for example are not even (on purpose) as an evolutionary mechanism to better triangulate spacial orientation. The same...
