    AKG C3000b very low gain?

This mic is probably one of the highest gain mics I own. Do you have the -10dB pad engaged? How about the 500Hz lowend rolloff? Make sure that the pad is set to 0dB and the rolloff flat and you should have more than enough gain. If not then something is definitely wrong. Lucio

    Sp B1

Maybe it's the lighting in the pictures, but the new mics seem to have a gold, bronze reflection to them vs the original mics. The originals also had the 797audio logo on the front. The new ones don't. Correct, they added dual pads and roll offs to the B1. Lucio

    Sp B1

Not to add more confusion, but I have 2 B1's and 2 B3's and the B3's are definitely brighter than the B1's with more sheen and color. The B1's have more bottom and are more transparent. Mine are the older silver-ish models, not the new gold-ish ones. They sound especially good run through my...

MXL 960 Tube Condenser Mic - Looking for Feedback

The 960 wasn't discontinued, that was an assumption because the used the same body for their Genesis mic. You can get it at Musicians Friends for $199. This mic with a tube change holds up very well and I use it more often than some of my "better" more expensive mics. I use 2 different tubes...

MXL V77 schematic. Is it alright to post?

Over the years there has been mention of people wanting to see this schematic. I finally got around to tracing the circuit in my V77 and just wondered if there would be a issue posting it here legally or ethically or where ever. Not sure how this stuff works so I'm asking first. Lucio

    Apex 460 capacitor change?

I posted a reply at SF also. C4 is a polystyrene that is mounted to the back of the board in the 460, which is why you don't see it in photos. The ceramic must have been in very early versions. Lucio

A nice sonding cheaper Mic pre

I'll second the EH12AY7 tube pre because I have 3 of them. They're excellent and very versatile with tube changes for different colors. The big difference is that these are real discrete tube pres, not something with a toob in the circuit. Just make sure that you have true balanced inputs or...

    MXL V77 - accesories needeed?

Yeh, when I first got my V77 I had the PS set to 220v instead of 110v and it cooked, but they sent me a replacement for free. Great guys!! I think the V77 PS is around $50.00, but that was a couple years back. Lucio

    MXL V77 - accesories needeed?

You can get the V77 power supply from MXL. MXL told me that the V69 PS won't work with the V77 when I got my V77 PS replacement. Lucio

Can a transformer be added to a transformerless mic?

OK. There are a couple things I can't figure out with this schematic. R10, R20, R21 and R22 have an E after the numbers. What would the E stand for? R11 has an *) which means SELECT. But there's no value given so what do you put in there? Thanks.

Can a transformer be added to a transformerless mic?

Man, this is helping alot!!! Thanks. So far I'm with you. I just noticed that there is english under the German text. I wish there was a way to blow these up without losing the detail. On the tube schematics it usually said what the tranny ratio was, but I don't see any reference here. Is...

Can a transformer be added to a transformerless mic?

The schematic I have is for the U87,87p,87iand 87ip which I believe are the original 87's. Man, I wish I could separate the schematic like that. This is what I'm seeing from the U87/U87p upper section: I can see where all the switches are to the left of the symbols that kinda look like this...

Can a transformer be added to a transformerless mic?

OK gotcha. I figured that I need an external phantom supply with the pre, but I never thought about it in the mic. Duh. As soon as I get that info I'll post it, because I'll definitely need some guidance with it. I found some U87 schematics to study, they're definitely more complicated than...

Can a transformer be added to a transformerless mic?

Robert D, That's a great option, because unfortunately, I don't have any pre's with transformers, yet. Which brings up another question about adding external trannys infront of transformerless pre's. I was thinking about using something like the Ebtech "hum eliminators" as a base line unit...

Can a transformer be added to a transformerless mic?

Thanks for the replys. OK. I guess I need to understand some of the terminology here. Does FET only apply to a transformerless circuit? I know that FET is a "field effect transistor", but what does BJT and SMT stand for? Does this mean that you can't use a FET based circuit with a...
