so...does -18dbfs average level apply only when going from analog outboard gear into a DAW? On a self-contained multitrack recording unit does the same rule apply?

hey all, after a couple years of trudging along with my apex 415 to art tube mp to maudio 2496, I've upgraded the pre to an A designs Pacifica. I need some A/D conversion to tie me over until I can get the apogee, benchmark, etc. I need at least two balanced ins (preferrably XLR, TRS will do)...

the compressor is an RNC1773, the software is Cool Edit Pro 2.0. wouldn't this be a common scenario (adding external effects to a dry recorded track)? until now i've only ever used the cool edit effects. theres got to be a simple way to do this.

i've looked through the manual/help and can't seem to find out how. why wouldn't i want to do it?

alright....i've got the compressor hooked up and can hear it doing its thing on my soloed acoustic guitar track. how do i record that compression onto the track permanently? thanks adam

Hello all, I recently got Cool Edit Pro 2.1 and am in the process of learning the program. I've got my in/outs properly configured on the "multitrack view" and the volume works fine. When I flip over to "edit view", I get no volume. Do I have to configure the ins/outs on this page too. If so...

Thanks BullsHit, I did learn about the rec outs typically having a weak signal and switched to the ST outs with the 1/4" phone jacks. Still got nothing. I think something is wrong with the inputs on my AP 24/96. Or something is wrong with me, I can usually figure this stuff out but I'm stumped...

Yeah, I connected the mixer to the RCA ins on my Crate Amp just to be sure it was sending out a signal. I still can't figure it out. I think there is something wrong with the inputs on my soundcard.

I can't seem to get any sound out of my Yamaha MG10 mixer. I've got RCAs going from "REC out" on the MG into the audio ins on my audiophile 2496. It only has two sets (1 in, 1 out) of RCAs so I know I've got that right. I'm guessing I've got to change some settings within the recording software...
