    Vocal Issues and Home Remedies

The only remedy against vocal issues is voice training. If you keep your instrument healthy, you won't have problems.

    How does improve vibrato?

Find a note somewhere comfortable in middle voice. Then add a half-tone to it and practise very slowly at first changing from one note to the other. Increase speed gradually and NO, do not use your chin, it has to come purely from a vibration in your throat. This is the technical way to learn...

    All Time Best Song Ever...

This is a great piece, Bob! The parts that sound really smashed are when the heavy guitars kick in, guess that is where the mix is most crowded. If you could get those parts to breathe a bit more, this would be complete. The musicianship is just amazing ;)

My collaboration with Rick Rubin. (bet that got yer attention)

Playing and tune are pretty good. To me it sounds like the mids on the guitars are a little missing. That makes the guitars real scratchy. But if that's what you were going for, it's cool. I dig your bass sound.

Thanks Rami! I was going for the kind of reverb on the snare that sounds like Alicia Key's "Girl on Fire". You're right, it sounds real trashy. I used parallell compression on the kick and snare this time. I mixed them down on one track, and used a NY compression preset which compresses the hell...

    Led Zep cover

I really dig this, Rami....and I don't really hear a problem with the guitar sound. This is your version and there's no law saying it should sound just like the original. I thought you made a great job of the vocals, everyone and his dog knows how hard it is to sing like Plant ;) And regarding...

Thanks Dave, glad you like the second mix! Yes, the consonants do sound a bit hard at times, but I thought that would be a good effect. I even left the breaths before each phrase on the vocal track, usually i would cut those out. Caro wrote this and she's got plenty of other great songs...

An Experiment in Minimalism (Bad Moon Rising)

I think it sounds great, Adam! Everything is beautifully captured. And I know what you mean with falling in love with harmonies...that's what happens when a singer produces something ;) Me, I'm in a band right now singing lots of CCR songs and enjoying it!

    Postcards From St Ives

This is beautifully wierd in a very good way, Rob! It's got elements of 60's psychadelia which I really like. Mix-wise, it could sound a bit bigger though, I find that the different elements are panned somewhat close to the centre. Although of course that could change the vintage feel of it. But...

Hey Jason, you got some great stuff coming out of your new studio, man! Yeah, I did the first mix too soon after the tracking, with the second one I waited a bit ;) There are a couple of good compressors that come with Samplitude Pro X. On the vocals I chose a preset for over-compressed vocals...

Yes, the swish is intentional Rod. I was going for a very spacy sounding piano and inserted that synth sound behind it. I dialled it a bit back in the second mix though. Thanks for the comments! ;)

Thanks Rob! I've been experimenting a lot with reverbs and panning, I guess that's where the secret to "big sounds" lies. Caro is a truly talented singer and we plan to record more of her stuff. Appreciate the comments ;)

Hey Gerry! The kick is playing kind of a hip-hoppy rhythm and the it's following the bass pattern, but I'll have a look at it again. Thanx for listening! :)

    We Can Do Anything

Nice tune, Gerry! Guitars and bass sound just fine, can't wait to hear it with real drums though. Your voice sounds as though you were standing a bit far away from the mic, almost as if you're in a different room from the other elements. Mike's backings sound closer. Good stuff though! :)
