    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

Glad to hear that. At least someone's making progress :thumbs up: I do have on end of the cap soldered to the pot case. That's how my Mockingbird is wired up: The other wiring info I used was from GuitarElectronics.com: 2 Humbuckers/3-Way Toggle Switch/2 Volumes/2 Tones (But there they have...

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

So, I took the original pickups that came with the guitar and alligator-clipped them to the pots to complete the circuit: It still sounds awful. It makes a lot of noise by itself. When I touch anything grounded, it goes away.

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

So here is my wiring, mostly redone... The only wiring that's missing are the pickups themselves. But I thought, before I do that. Let me see if I get any noise with just the components so far... I do :(

I hope this is clearer. I tried to draw out how I have things wired up.

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

A few years ago I decided to use my cheapest guitar for experiments. I had always wanted to change pickups, tuning heads, etc. I also went a step further and put in all new pots, knobs and toggle switch. I did something wrong. I was getting some really awful noise out of it. I didn't know how to...

Only the D String Is Off

So I just did a run-of-the-mill string change. Now for some reason only my D string's intonation is out. I have a tune-o-matic bridge with a stop bar. Chiefly I've been adjusting the saddle screw, but even at the extreme it won't come into tune. It loses pitch as I go up the fretboard. The way...

    Maximizing Time

So of course the creative juices aren't flowing constantly. But I still try to make time for my music anyway. Something that's been really helpful for me has been to tap into the technical when I'm not feeling creative. Whenever I get something new, whether it's hardware or software, I still...

    Tone Caps

So I'm doing my first ever pot change on a guitar, and I want to put in new caps for the tone knobs. I'm not great with electronics, but I was able to figure out that my original pots used the .047uF caps. I didn't know how much the caps affected tone so I did some searching. One site says that...

    Skyscraper [Cover]

So this is a mostly finished cover of Bad Religion's "Skyscraper" from 1993's Recipe for Hate. The only thing I'd like to add to it would be to have my brother fill out the background harmonies. (He's interested in doing it, just incredibly busy lately.) I did my best to counteract the nasality...

    "Difference of Two"

So I've been spending a lot of time re-recording my old songs, but I finally wanted to finish up something new I had sitting around. I was feeling nostalgic for some nineties industrial: Stabbing Westward, God Lives Underwater, Gravity Kills, etc. I ended up with this: I'm pretty happy with...

    What Sound Looks Like

A friend of mine pointed me to this video: What Sound Looks Like Just thought it was cool and worth sharing :thumbs up:

Recording and Monitoring One's Own Vocals

So I recorded a vocal track last night and it sounds lousy. The drum, bass, and guitar tracks all sound really good. I couldn't figure out why there was such a discrepancy between what I was hearing in headphones and what I was hearing in my DAW. The vocals were much thinner and badly EQed. The...

    To Upgrade KitCore or Not

I've been having some troubles with my drum machine lately and am considering moving to a VST plugin. With Sony Acid Pro, you also get the basic KitCore plugin - the one with 8 different drum kits. They all sound good, but they also seem to all have reverb on them. I tried using the Matt Sorum...

    Finding Quotes for EDM-style Songs

I mainly play guitar and work on riffs and songs for hard rock or metal, but I also love working on electronic music as well now and then. My favorite styles are hard trance and dark drum n' bass. I'm working on a song now, and I decided that it needs some quotes to fill in a few blank areas...

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

So, I'm pretty new to MIDI in general. I've been playing guitar for years, but only recently got a keyboard controller - the Akai Max25. I've been trying my best to research and get the hang of the lingo, but I can't seem to find anything that sorts it out well. All the sites that I look at...
